My class consists of 17 kindergarten students. I teach in a rural community and it is a public school which recently consolidated with a neighboring school district. My class has 9 boys and 8 girls. Mainly they come from middle income parents. I do, however, have foster children, divorced families and parents being deployed overseas this year. The building in which I teach ranges from Pre-K through 4th grade. We have a total population of 347 students. Of those students 35% are on free or reduced lunches. We offer 4 sections of Kindergarten presently. However, with the state budget reductions, Kindergarten is being downsized to 3 sections.
