Funded Dec 1, 2015My students and I are very grateful for your generous donations to our class. As a teacher, the ability to incorporate technology in my classroom has made a great impact on my students' learning and their ability to communicate. The iPads that my students received have now empowered them to become more verbal as well as increased their vocabulary and academic growth. There are many students who have now mastered their ability to recite and identify the letters of the alphabet and continue to work on learning how to articulate the sounds for each letter. I have one student who just began blending sounds and putting letters together to make words. In addition, this particular student has shown tremendous progress in recognizing the numbers from 1-100. The knowledge that my Autistic preschoolers exhibit during guided learning activities has proved that the use of the iPads in my classroom has been a success.
In today's era, technology is always exciting for anyone, let alone for 3 year old who is curious about the world and eager to learn about how things work. My preschoolers always look forward to "free choice centers" because that is when they are given the opportunity to use the iPads. They like to complete a variety of activities that allow them to practice their language while expanding their vocabulary. My students see the iPads more as a game than a learning tool. However, it is through the use of different apps that my students have been able to learn their colors, shapes, and basic communication skills. In addition, having the iPads in my class has assisted my students in learning how to take turns as well as learning to share with each other.
I have one particular student who is very fond of technology. He is constantly trying to access the teacher's computer. K.F. loves the time he gets for using the iPad. I can visualize this student as being a future IT technician. Whenever his Ipad time is up, K.F. always tries to figure out other ways in which he can still access the iPad. He often tries to use the camera and take pictures.”
With gratitude,
Ms. M.
