One area my students struggle the most with is understanding math in a critical way. Open-ended math questions will help my students to think creatively and critically with number sense. I will begin math with a math question that is meaningful and directed to their everyday lives. Students will get the chance to practice and explore, share, think out side the box. Mistakes are the key to learning! Dry erase boards and markers make those mistakes easy to fix! Open-ended math questions require students to think more deeply and give responses that involve more than recalling a fact or reproducing a skill!
