  • STEAM for Second Grade

    Funded Aug 6, 2018

My students have been so excited to play and engineer with our new STEAM tools. We just got them last week and they love their STEAM time every Wednesday. It is so fun to see their inquisitive minds at work when trying to build a new contraption or reach the goal of their activity. Right now we are just having free use of the STEAM tools where they are exploring how the new tools work. Eventually, we will be using them to build certain things that go with our curriculum. For example, when we study animal habitats they will be using the tools to build their very own animal habitat. We are so thankful for the new additions to our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • Science for Second Graders

    Funded Aug 2, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My second graders are loving the new science curriculum we have been using from this project. They are so excited to learn about new things we haven't talked about before. Yesterday, we learned all about the butterfly life cycle and in the spring we will be growing our own butterfly. We also love our Scholastic Weekly Readers. My students have become very excited to read those weekly. We have read articles about the election in them and with the online resources that come with it, we even got to place a class vote for president!

Thank you again for your donations!”

  • New Carpet for Second Grade!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you all so much for your donation to our project. After I post a project, I always tell my students what we might be getting if our project is funded. I have never seen my students so excited as when I told them we might be getting a new carpet! When I told them that we were getting a new carpet for our classroom, we could not wait! We all decided where we would put this new carpet and made rules to "protect" our brand new carpet!

My students and I used the new carpet every single day! We join together on the carpet to do our read aloud and to have discussions about every thing.

Thank you again, I can't wait for my incoming students to experience our beautiful new carpet!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henderson

  • Classroom Supplies!

    Funded Dec 14, 2015

My students and I are so grateful for our new resources in our classroom. We absolutely LOVE our brand new markers. We have had a lot of fun making posters and projects using our bright colored markers. My students have been so excited to learn the names of all of the new colors we have in our marker packs. We are also so excited to be using our new, sharp scissors. The most exciting new part is our awesome stools! My students are so excited to come to their small group time because they get to sit on our sensory stools. The stools have made such a difference in how well my students sit and pay attention. They have been great for my wiggly students. Thank you again for your donation!”

  • Leap Pads for Learners

    Funded Dec 29, 2014

I cannot thank you enough for donating to our Leap Pads. My students are SO excited to learn on them. They come in to class every day asking if they are going to get to use the Leap Pads today. One of my boys was even playing a math game on there and it started giving him multiplication facts because he was getting so many answers correct. All of the other students huddled around him to watch him and cheer him on while he answering multiplication facts correctly.

We are using the Leap Pads in reading. We found a lot of great phonics apps to use that help us sound out our words which will also eventually help us read better. In math we are using our Leap Pads to help us with our addition and subtraction skills.

This has boosted our learning because my students are excited to play games that enhance their learning! I have students taking out hundreds charts to help them answer 2 digit addition problems while playing their math games. It has been so fun to watch my students learn with our Leap Pads.”

  • Paper And Supplies For Smiling Students

    Funded Nov 15, 2014

My students were so happy when they walked into our classroom and they had brand new supplies to use. They use the markers every single day! Even if we are doing an activity where they probably do not need markers, they always run to use our special new markers. My math students were extremely excited to use our new white boards and special colored white board markers. They participate in math the whole time now just because they get to use the cool colored markers to write out their math problems!

We are using these resources every day. The markers, scissors, and glue help us do fun art projects to go along with the books that we are reading. The paper helps us get important school work done. The markers and white boards are used every day in math to help us stay engaged in our math work.

This has boosted my students' learning because they are so excited to use our nice, new things that they don't even realize how much more learning we are getting done now that we have these supplies.

    Thank you all so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henderson

  • Leveled Readers for Second Graders!

    Funded Sep 14, 2014

My students were so excited to see that we had new books. They were happy to start reading the books. In our classroom they have 15 minutes every day where they have to read independently to practice the skills that we are learning all together. My students get to choose the books they read for those 15 minutes, depending on which level they are. The students leaped to get their books because they knew they had brand new books to choose from!

While my students read independently, I went around to each of them and asked them to read for me. They were thrilled to tell me about their new books.

This project boosted my teaching because I know now that when they are reading independently, they are actually able to read the books in front of them since they are at their level. This boosted my students' learning because they were able to LOVE to read during their independent time!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henderson

I teach 100% Native students. They are funny and smart. They love to come to school and learn about new things. Our school is a fun place with a welcoming environment. We live in a very isolated area with little access to materials. Our community is strong, however statistics show that our test scores and graduation rates are lower than their non-Native peers. Our students need to be given materials and support so that they can access the kind of education their peers get throughout the rest of the state and the rest of the country.
