  • Becoming Writers

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

Thank you so much for fulfilling my project request. My students are going to be thrilled when these books arrive. They are enjoying exploring the crafts of so many amazing authors and playing with different styles in their own writing. Your generosity is helping to create this generation of readers and writers!”

  • Book Love

    Funded Jun 17, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our project "Book Love". I have found that providing a variety of books for students to choose from has a huge impact on their motivation to read. I am always trying to grow my library to match and expand my students' interests. The books you provided will do this, as well as work as mentor texts so that I can teach skills and strategies through fun and engaging stories.

Again, thank you for providing the resources to help students become lifelong learners and readers.”

  • Reading Machines!

    Funded Nov 16, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. These books are sure to be a huge hit and keep my students excited about reading! I can’t wait to share these amazing titles with them and am certain they will be as grateful as I am to you for caring about their education.”

  • Book Nerds and Owning It!

    Funded Feb 8, 2019

I am so happy to share that I have a classroom full of eager readers. They are motivated to read and have lots of choices thanks to incredible donors like you! I read aloud at least one picture book a day and a chapter book during snack time. In addition, students read assigned text as well as lots of independent reading for pleasure!

A favorite and requested part of our day is always "reading stamina". This is the time set aside during our day when everyone quietly reads independently. The students named it "reading stamina" time because I talked about this at the start of the year and it stuck! Due to the volume of reading my students do, we need a wide variety and large amount of books. Thanks to your generosity and kindness, students have fresh books to read and enjoy!

Whenever I request a book, I try to think of ways it can be used to connect to skills, strategies, and content. While this is part of my goal, the other part is to instill a love for reading. I can not thank you enough for your help in meeting these goals. My students are readers and it would not have been possible without the help you provided.”

  • A Book A Day!

    Funded Jan 21, 2019

Over the years I have seen how increasing my classroom library with new and fresh texts have kept my students engaged and interested in reading. I have students who already love to read and can't wait to get their hands on every book that comes through the door, but I also have students who are not always as excited about reading when they start second grade. Through lots of read alouds, conversations about books, and book talks these students become avid readers by the year's end. It is fabulous to witness and happens thanks to donors like you!”

  • The Need to Read!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I wish you could have witnessed the excitement in my classroom when we opened the box of books that you so generously funded. There is no feeling that can express what is is like to watch 19 eager 7 and 8 year olds struggling to contain themselves because they just want to READ THE BOOKS! It is so gratifying and it is thanks to you that these students have access to the books that will keep them reading and motivated to learn and grow and contribute to the world as kind and gracious human beings. It is my humble opinion that the best gift you can give is a book. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

  • Rockin' While We Work!

    Funded Oct 14, 2016

Thank you all so much for your donations for the Spooner balance boards. Not only do there provide my students with much needed movement breaks and build core strength, but they are also extremely motivating! It took me a little while to determine how to best use these in the classroom in a fair way, but students could not wait to get ahold of them! We have used them as a break from sitting while working at desks, but I am continuing to think of other opportunities for students to use them. One idea I came up with is to challenge students to do GoNoodle exercises while standing on the balance board. GoNoodle is a site of exercises and activities like yoga that are intended to get kids up and moving to increase focus. The exercises are great on their own, but will only be enhanced with the extra challenge using the boards! My students love using them and I so appreciate your generosity in helping to obtain them for my classroom.”

  • Wobble While You Work!

    Funded Sep 11, 2016

The wobble stools that you funded for my class have are amazing! My students love them because they are comfortable and fun. I love them because they provide feedback to those students who need a little movement in order to attend, which in turn increases their engagement. They are also much easier to store than the balance balls I have used previously.

When the stools first arrived, students were very excited! I made certain that everyone had a chance to use them. Now they are assigned to particular students, but shared during a variety of times. Other students in the school also love them and have opportunities to use them as I host many after school classes in my room. To say they are a hit is an understatement!

Since our class has begun using the wobble stools, other teachers in the building have begun checking them out and thinking about how they will use them in their own classrooms. I am also exploring funding to obtain more of these great seating options for my students. Your generosity has touched many and is especially appreciated by my students and me.”

  • Cozy Places to Work and Learn

    Funded Sep 11, 2016

As you can see from the photos, the carpet is beautiful, bright, and fun! It makes our classroom very welcoming and homey. Everyone who enters the room comments on how much they love it from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. Students each have a spot to sit upon when we meet as a group. This is important tot hem as they like to have their own space, even when working as a group. The carpet also acts as a flexible meeting area for students to work together in small groups or as individuals. This carpet has been such a wonderful addition to our classroom in so many ways and I can not thank you enough.”

  • Magnificent Mathematicians!

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

My students and I are loving the new resources! We are using a Math Rotation model and the materials provide students with plenty of opportunities to practice math skills and math practice standards. Students are especially excited about the Math in Minutes pocket chart and questions. They feel successful when they are able to solve new problems and the variety touches upon each child's strengths. They also loved the math "chains" as we had not previously used these. They provide a great visual for the decade system.

When the box arrived with the materials, students could hardly contain themselves to get a look inside. Once I showed them the materials, they were eager to get to work. I introduced one of the activities and they were off and running. Their enthusiasm has not waned and we are using the materials daily in our rotations.

The math materials donated have been being used regularly since arriving during our math rotations. I am participating in Guided Math professional development this summer and my mind is racing regarding ways to best organize and utilize the activities. Not only did the materials benefit this years students, but I am confident they will enhance student learning for years to come.”
