Words can not express the gratitude we have for your support. Thank you all for your generosity and support for this project. The students will return from spring break excited to learn that they have the books and tools needed to prepare them for a successful competition season. Again thank for your donations and support for students and educators.”

  • Our Reflections

    Funded Feb 5, 2025

Your generous donation has and will have a continued impact on my students. The students were so excited to find new books on our shelves and items to use to create images that reflect who they are. Students have engaged in reading and writing activities that explore connecting their reading to their everyday lives.

Students are choosing books with characters that look like them and can reflect on the things they have learned through reading. I am happy to see my first and second graders discussing their books among each other and recommending the books they have read with their classmates.”

  • Read the World

    Funded Nov 1, 2024

The generosity of your donation has allowed my students to enjoy the materials purchased. These books reflect the world that they live in and the people they see each and every day. From my kindergarten students to my fifth graders, each student has the opportunity to choose books that they can enjoy and see themselves reflected in the book they choose.

We use the books to engage in activities and meaningful discussions on culture, life, and the world around us. The students are learning to write and express their thoughts through creative projects. The best part is, that teachers are seeing improvement in the reading and writing skills of their students in first and second grade.

We can not say thank you enough for your donation and continued support.”

My students were so excited to receive your donation. They have been able to expand on their skills in STEM and showcase their work to the school and community.

Because of your donation they have plans for the next school year to creative innovative creations and works that we plan on displaying around the school and on social media. STEM activities are requested even more in our whole school to thanks to this donation. My students have photographed, built and expressed themselves through their designs. We can't thank the donors enough for their support.”

  • A Diverse World of Reading

    Funded Feb 28, 2022

Because of your generosity, my students are able to have more choices of books that reflect them as students. This is such a game changer as my students have requested more books from authors from diverse backgrounds. We are so thankful that we have books that truly showcase characters and communities in stories that mirror my students.

My Hispanic students are excited to read books that expose them to real-life people who have made an impact on the world. These books show my students the many possibilities that are available to them as they grow and learn.

Lastly, reading across the school has changed, because of the funding. Students are excited to come to the media center and see all the choices they have with characters on the cover of books that look like them or their classmates. Thank you all again, so much for funding our project.”

    With gratitude,

  • Seeing Ourselves in our Reading

    Funded Sep 7, 2021

My students have gotten the opportunity to have more options of books that have characters that look like them. They have enjoyed reading and learning about people who represent them and where they hope to be one day.

Since I have every student in the school the reading looks like students having a chance to browse a full section of books that allow them to have options of books that expand not only their view of authors but of characters that reflect who they are.

Although the selection received was diverse I have seen an increase in my male students being eager to grab one of the books from Donors Choose and dive right into it. I've been able to use the books to show students careers available to them, how to use their voice in a positive way. Again, we are so excited to have these book and thank you for your donation.”

  • Diversify Our Media Center

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Although Covid-19 has limited our schools ability to have in-person learning for the moment and the circulation has almost halted I have been able to with your donation to give my students a sneak peak at the books you provided to us. WIth the books purchased I have done lessons that have taught the students about resilience. They have learned about loving their own skin and have written about their hopes and dreams for the future.

Reading in my room is a combination of live Zooms and recorded lessons. The students love that I try my best to become the characters and give them life from the pages. All the students are enjoying the books and are looking forward to being able to check them out when we return to in-person learning. We thank you for your donation and appreciate how much these books will have a lasting effect on all our students in years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ross

  • Expand Our Reading Palate

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

With the books received from your generous donation, our students have been able to begin to expand their reading palate. The main skill being learned at this time is learning how to read books that they wouldn't normally read.

Since students aren't in school at this time, reading looks a lot different than it normally would. Students are at home and although I was worried that they would toss their books aside and not read, they have surprised me and are reading. In a normal class students could be seen reading at their desk, in quiet groups or by themselves in a comfortable space.

Even though students are home staying safe during this pandemic, several were able to check out before schools were closed and have been able to start enjoying the new books we received.”

  • Realizing Our Potential Through Reading

    Funded Jun 11, 2014

First I would like to thank you all for your donations. My students were shocked to receive the materials that you were funded. The fact that they ranged from non-fiction to fiction and informational text was outstanding. The students said they were happy to see new materials in the media center and were excited to begin checking this new books out.

The students have used the resources provided by your donations in many ways. Several students used the materials to conduct research and learn how to cite resources in non-fiction books. This helped the students develop a skill that they will need when they graduate and enter college. As well some students were able to finish the Hunger Games series. Without your donation that may not have been possible, due to the media center only having the first book. Many students were excited about the new titles being added and were eager to be the first to check out the new fiction books added to the media center.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ross

I work with elementary students who have different interests and range in age from 5-12 years. Most of my students are very strong-minded individuals and enjoy showing their creativity in different forms. The school I work in is in a rural setting, with most of the families of the students being low to middle income. Currently our percentage of free or reduced lunch stands near 98%. One of the standing initiatives at our school is improving student reading ability. As it stands, our students are below their required reading levels. An initiative to offer them a greater variety of books and to expand their technology and chances to read would be optimal.
