Readers Are Leaders!
Funded Nov 27, 2018Thank you for giving to my project. My students are excited to start reading these books! These are high interest books and by reading these, it is hoped that they will become life-long readers. By being life-long readers, they will be more productive citizens in the future. Again, thank you!”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose.org Community and 4 other donors.Working Hard and Learning All the Time!
Funded Dec 24, 2016Thank you for your generous donation. My students love the math games and the reading stations. The math games have helped them understand the concepts taught in class quicker than usual. While playing games, they don't realize that they are actually learning a concept.
To use the math games, I divide the students into groups of four. There are four different games inside each box and each game is for four players. The groups rotate around the math stations for a set amount of time.
I use the reading sets for afterschool tutoring. There are six cards for each story and four stories in a box. The topics range from fact/opinion to summarization. While working with me, this allows the students to better understand these reading concepts.
Again, thanks for all that you do!”

Magical Reading Carpet!
Funded Jan 30, 2017Thank you for your recent donations. My students and I are looking forward to our carpet. We plan to designate an area in the room for a reading nook and the carpet will be a perfect addition to the nook. Thank you for your support in my classes reading efforts.”

Colorful STEAM Projects
Funded Oct 26, 2016Thank you for your donation of a color printer. This allows my students to work on projects on the computer, then print them out for display or to put on presentation boards. The results are eye catching and easier to read than black and white printouts in grey scale.
One of our math units is graphing. Students are able to make their own graphs after researching various topics, and then print them out in vibrant colors. The different colors allow each student to understand the graphs better and to discern the information needed to answer questions. This will help them later in life, and not to mention that it will help them on the STAAR test. Thank you again!”

Percy Jackson: Who Says Reading Isn't Fun?
Funded Sep 12, 2016Dear Donors,
I want you to know what type of impact these books have on my students. Currently my high group is reading the second Percy Jackson book, Sea of Monsters. They are excited and are repeatedly asking me if it will be alright for them to read past the chapters that I assign daily. The group immediately below them is now happily reading the first Percy Jackson book, The Lightning Thief. When I informed them that they would be reading this book, they grinned and cheered. They were extremely excited to be reading "a big kid book, not a baby book."
The students in these two groups are making literary connections that most fifth grade students do not make. They see the correlation between mythology and science. They understand common phrases and sayings that are common in the English language and now know where those saying originated. They tell me daily how they go home and tell their parents where these sayings come from.
The groups below the top two groups are now working hard at learning the skills needed to read these upper level books. They are actually trying, because they know that if they reach a certain level, they too will be allowed to read the Jackson series. They are motivated and that makes my job as a reading teacher much easier.”
