The Key to Learning is Technology
Funded Dec 16, 2016Thank you so much for donating to our technology project. We are so grateful for you. Technology has helped Room 8 succeed in so many ways. It puts a fun twist on our learning and what we do in the classroom.
We use the tablets daily to ensure that we are learning in the best possible way we can. We use them to do our reading intervention program. This helps all students to meet the time and criteria so they can succeed and make our reading levels grow.
We also use the tablets during our Daily 5. It is a center that the students listen and read books on their reading level. Then they answer questions about the book that are all common core related. This is a good way to assess the students and their needs. This center is the most liked center! The students can't wait till it is their turn to use the tablets!
The tablets are also used during Math time as well. One of our favorite Math apps that we use is Sumdog. It reinforces what is being taught that day in our classroom. This is by the far their favorite time of the day in Room 8.
Without many resources in our district, it can be challenging to meet the needs of our students. But with great people like our donors, it helps us immensely. The impact that you make on us is very much appreciated. Room 8 has grown so much throughout the year because of you!”

Back To The Basics
Funded Sep 12, 2016Happy New Year! Again, I cannot express my thanks and gratitude to the donors who made this Donors Choose project possible. The Philadelphia School District is very limited with basic school supplies and teachers spend a lot of their own money each year on purchasing basic school supplies for their students in need and for their classroom. When I decided to put up a project for basic school supplies that are needed daily in my classroom, I didn't think it would ever be funded. Thanks to you, it was!
My students and I are so thankful for such kind people that donated to our learning classroom. Because of you, we can print out many resources for my classroom not only in black and white but in color. We can laminate everything so it doesn't get ruined and can be reused again. We have beautiful colorful paper that makes projects and letter more enjoyable to read and create. These are just a few of the basic supplies that were donated to our classroom.
These supplies are used daily for classroom use. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Ms. Rivera
This classroom project was brought to life by the estate of Dorothea Lutz and 2 other donors.Extra, Extra! Read All About It!
Funded Feb 24, 2015My students and I couldn't thank you enough for our classroom library. The School District of Philadelphia lacks many, many resources making it difficult for students to reach their maximum potential. Having said this, a lot of teachers use the donorschoose website to ask for resources that are needed in their individual classrooms.
When my project was funded, I was so excited to explain to my students what had just occurred and what we were about to receive. My students love to read! They are amazing readers that are reading above a first grade reading level. Their love for reading is so inspiring and I knew that they were going to be ecstatic when we received new books! When the classroom library was delivered, I opened it up in front of them and showed them all of the new books that they were going to be able to read daily! They all screamed and yelled with excitement. I can honestly say that I haven't seen them with this much excitement in a while.
We use our classroom library every day during center time. This is one of their favorite centers! The students get to choose a book from the library that is on their reading level. They get to read it and when they are finished they get to write a book report on it. They also get to keep these books in their desk for a week so when they are finished with their work or have down time, they can pull out their book and read it.
This project boosted my love for teaching and my students' love for reading TREMENDOUSLY! I was so happy to see my students excited to read and watch them choose from a variety of books instead of the same books that they have been reading all year. This allowed me to teach using different texts instead of the same ones that we have been using. This opened their eyes to the different types of books that are available and the many different things that you can do before, during and after reading.
Thank you for bringing such joy and excitement into my classroom. This project has truly been an inspiration to my students and I.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rivera
