Oops! Need Spare Pants.

Help me give my students pants....our little ones have had a rough year in relation to having bathroom accidents. Our spare clothing cabinet is empty in our littlest sizes.

  • Chewy Necklaces for Our Chompers

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you so much for your quick funding of this project. I forgot to have one of the teachers take a picture of one of her student's current chewy (the state of it) to show you the great need we have this year with chewies. As this student goes through chewies quickly, I am going to try to hold off on taking pictures until we need to swap it out again. :)

We did get extra tough chewies this time, so we'll see if they are truly "tough enough". We are also working with their parents to work on getting outside sensory support, so that hopefully we will see a decreased need and dependence on the chewies overall, but for right now, they help! We can avoid holes in sleeves, wet/slobbery clothing, chewed up pencils/pens, etc. by providing these as an alternative.

Thanks again for your support- we were down to 2 spare chewies and they were the softest level so wouldn't have lasted long at all!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schmidt

  • Hygiene Instruction for Our Newcomers

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Sorry for the delayed thank you note. We had a problem with shipping and receiving the correct items....well, quantity (we received 10 individual kits vs 10, 30ct packs). We had to send them back and re-request. Unfortunately, they sent the same 10 items again (instead of the 300 we were supposed to get). Sent them back and then was allowed to find the items elsewhere (from a non "normal" vendor partner).

Thankfully, that was successful and we just got our kits! Even better, we were able to get a standard kit (without a razor) and additional items (extra hand wipes, 2 little deodorants and a chapstick) to add to the kits. So more items at the same cost- win win! :) Phew!

We have added the extra items to all of the 300 kits and they are ready to be distributed next week to our middle school students in their physical education class (with an explanation by the phy ed teacher on each item- what to use it for and why it's important for hygiene).

Pictures will follow soon! Thanks again for your support!”

  • Hydration for HEP Students

    Funded Sep 4, 2024

I am so sorry I am late with this thanks! First semester seems to have flown by so quickly. We have been busy handing out water bottles to our new HEP families- the majority of whom are newcomers. Last year we ended with 85 students identified as homeless (without a stable home, including those who are doubled up with other families). Close to half of that number was in the 2nd half of the school year- after winter break.

This year, we are already at 42 students identified and are just about to go into winter break. The good news is that I have backpacks and supplies from generous community agencies/donors and the water bottles from this project to give to our new students. This allows them to transition to our school (and often, our country), while having all of the supplies they need from the start.

Thanks again so much and again, sorry for the delay in thanking you, my amazing donors! We could not function without the support of outside "angels" to our school community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schmidt

  • Sweatpants for Students

    Funded Aug 21, 2024

While I can't take a picture of kids IN the sweatpants (due to confidentiality reasons...because then you'd know who had a bathroom or other pant accident)....I still wanted to express my sincere thanks in getting this project funded. I just got the sweatpants last week and have already given out two- one for a young man that developed a rip in a not so discreet location and another for a young lady with a period accident.

The best part is that the kids can maintain their dignity and get back to class quickly and without much interruption or disruption. Even better, the parents don't have to figure out a way to leave work, get pants and bring to school (which for some parents, due to their circumstances, might give reason to dismiss them from their employment).

Our entire school thanks you for your generous support of our school (and projects).”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schmidt

  • No to Noisey Environments

    Funded Jun 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your quick response to this project in getting it funded! I am not sure how to explain the dramatic increase over the years (even since pre-covid) of students with Autism or Sensory needs. I had 10 headphones, all 10 in use with students....and had to turn some students away because I was out.

Because of donors like you, I now have 6 more pair...2 of which are already assigned to specific students that are new to our building with sensory needs. And many more that will most likely be needed once we start our general school assemblies (and that get quite loud, even for people like me).

Thanks for your support of our wonderful and differently abled students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schmidt

  • New County, New School, Need Supplies

    Funded May 9, 2024

Thank you so much for your donation to this project. With 85 students considered homeless last year at our school (many of which were newcomes to the country), we went through a LOT of backpacks and school supplies- to the point that we were out of several items.

This project helped me to restock my supply- which won't last long, as I am up to 25 students already identified under the homeless program and we are just over 3 weeks in to the new school year. By law, we are required to provide all students eligible for this program with all necessary supplies....which you can imagine, becomes a cost burden for individual schools like ours with higher transient populations. It is because of generous donors like you, that we are able to provide these items, without it impacting our overall budget for other needed items within the school.

    Thanks again so much!”

    Mrs. Schmidt

  • Short on Slacks!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

I wish this picture was the before the donation picture....but when I tell you that ALL of the pants that came with this donation have already gone to kids that have had some sort of accident (bathroom, food spilling, period/feminine accidents, etc), they have. I go through anywhere from 1-2 pants/underwear a day. So many of our families are working in situations in which they can't take off to get to school to bring spare clothing and/or lack the transportation to do so.

I know our families are so grateful that we can provide ALMOST everything that a student might need during the day to preserve dignity, remain in class, and be successful. And we can't do that without all of the kindness and support from others.

In addition, this year we have 67 students identified as Homeless (shelters, doubled up temporary situations, etc)...and many from warmer climates that may not have needed winter clothing. Some of this clothing went to those families as well when the student came inappropriately dressed for the weather (sunshine can be very deceiving!).”

  • Hooray for Hygiene!

    Funded Jan 12, 2024

Words can not express our gratitude with the funding of this project. First- we met our School Health goal for the year- which was to talk to our middle school students about hygiene and gift them with a hygiene kit of their own and Second- we even had enough for our 5th grade classes as well!

Our physical education teacher reviewed overall hygiene and then went through each item in the kit, describing what it was for and then importance of daily use. He then was able to hand them each a kit of their own to encourage proper and consistent personal care routines.

This was a huge undertaking and was definitely not something that would have fit into our own school budget to do. And it was funded JUST in the nick of time! Thanks so much for your support of this project on behalf of the students and staff!”

  • Diapers and Wipes, Oh My!

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

My apologies at being so late with this note of gratitude! The wipes and pull-ups were so desperately needed. We struggle with the fact that these items are costly for our families that can't afford much, but not wanting kids to sit in soiled pull-ups for a longer period of time. Some parents only send 1-2 spare pullups in the child's backpack, which sometimes is not enough. Parents are not able to leave work to bring more. We then struggle with "borrowing" from another child, until the parent does so.....but sometimes that doesn't happy right away.

While we don't want parents to assume the school will purchase the pull ups to use, we also don't want kids sitting in soiled pull-ups for any length of time.

This donation means a lot to us- as our youngest and (often) most vulnerable students, deserve to have the same effort to preserve their dignity and worth as the older students.

    Thanks again for your support!”
