Dual Language Books to Foster Reading
Funded Jan 1, 2018Thank you for funding our "Bilingual Books" project. My students have been really enjoying access to new books in the classroom. The bilingual books requested for the guided reading groups. As a teacher of 25 first graders, access to reading materials at the instructional level of my students is critical/essential to their academic success.
With these books, I have been able to support my students with a variety of skills. Within comprehension & fluency, I have been able to use the materials to support my students with moving to more fluency through text, using know word patterns to solve new words, cross-checking one source of information with another, using pictures & text together to create meaning, discussing ideas from the story in new ways that indicate understanding.
Within word work, I have been able to use the materials to support my students with inflected endings (-Ing, -s, -est, etc..), making and breaking, adding and deleting blends.
Within strategies to support, I have been able to use the materials to support my students with retelling, fluency, using schema, visualization, and monitoring for meaning.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ortiz

Class Resources
Funded Apr 16, 2014On behalf of the students, thank you for your generous contribution. The students will benefit from your contribution both now and in the future. In times of limited resources, contributions such as yours make an incredible difference in what's available to our students.
Your generous donation has allowed my students to feel empowered in the classroom. They love to sit by the library during reader's workshop to read the new books. They love to come up and write their sentences and math calculations on the easel (that you donated). They even love to role play being the teacher during choice time.
I so appreciate your contribution to us. You truly did a wonderful thing.”

Mrs. Ortiz
STEM Resources
Funded May 6, 2014My project has been funded, and my students and I are all tremendously excited! With your support, we were able to turn my class into a more engaging place. I am confident that this will increase interest, and thus understanding.
This funding has come right on time.
The rectangular table is used for conferencing and assessing students. The store book bins are used to house their independent book baggie and level books. The store books bins as well as the book boxes are used on a daily basis by 31 students. During reader's workshop students can now have now access the book bins from the shelf instead of a card board box.
This project boost my teaching and my student's learning by giving us a sense of hope. Hope is what gives people the ability to want to continue to strive for better. This donation has done just that for us.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ortiz
