  • Be a Book Club Hero!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

My sincerest thanks for helping me bring the high interest read Please Ignore Vera Dietz into our classroom. The objective is to build character along with reading and writing skills through reading and analysis of the book which will culminate in a community service project.

Students will learn vocabulary, sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and critical thinking skills while relating to the book using student created higher level thinking questions.

Thank you for being a book club hero!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Turk

  • Key Clubbers Becoming Key Leaders

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Our Key Clubbers attended a weekend leadership training conference in the concepts of service leadership. The five key principles explored during the weekend will be Integrity, Respect, Growth, Community, and Excellence. You can find out more information at www.key-leader.org.

My members live in the city, so "camping" on a mountain was a new and exciting experience for them. They made new friends and reflected on what it means to be a leader and encourages to never lose a grasp on their core values.

All shared that this was their most memorable high school experience.”

  • Be a Book Club Hero!

    Funded Jun 30, 2014

Thank you so much for becoming book club heroes with your generous book donation!

I surprised my students with the new books in two ways. We used them for sustained silent reading days and also as book club books. Their eyes lit up when they saw books that they had heard were interesting but hadn't had the opportunity to read. They look forward to sustained silent reading days so they can continue reading the books they love.

My classes are also engaging in book club. They are in a group of five students. They have all chosen the same book to read. They read independently at home and come prepared with something to teach their group based on the reading. Cooperative learning at its finest!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Turk

  • Help Make Book Club Fun!

    Funded Feb 18, 2014

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donation of high interest books for our classroom book clubs. My students were so excited to receive BRAND NEW books and to have a variety of genres to choose from. They chose books before we started book club and actually started reading them independently before they created objectives and assigned roles because they were so excited. I shared your messages with them and they wanted me to say, "Thank you Anonymous Donor! We realize reading is an adventurous escape and we hope to travel the world reading like you." "Thank you Vitaliy V! We promise to pay it forward."”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Turk

My students are reluctant readers. Some of my students do not complete reading homework therefore are not fully prepared for class discussions. They spend class time fishing for plot instead of relating to and analyzing text. High interest books for book club could quickly change their lives and foster a love of reading.
