  • Lending Library for Independent Reading

    Funded May 5, 2022

Thank you for your generous contributions to our “Lending Library” project. My second grade students will be highly motivated to read these contemporary and engaging books and will be able to read at home independently and to their family members. By the end of the year all students will have had an opportunity to engage with all of these books and will have increased their reading skills and love of reading immensely! Your concern for our well-being and learning gives me and my students so much motivation!”

  • Sharpen Our Focus With Reliable Headphones

    Funded Mar 19, 2019

At our elementary school, technology is used in conjunction with our language arts and math programs to enhance skills taught by the teacher. A part of our language arts time called "Blended Learning" is used for small group instruction. Students needing remediation are able to work with the teacher on reading skills. Other groups may be working on assignments. One group will be utilizing technology on phonics-based programs called Lexia or Amplify Reading. These programs are adapted to a student's individual level. During math time, one group works with the teacher, while the other group works on a math program called Zearn, which is the technology component of our math program.

The most exciting part of the headphones provided through your donation is that students each have their own headphone. It is labeled with their name and stored in a bag. During both these parts of the day, the students are able to utilize their own functioning headphone. They take care of it as they know that in order to be able to utilize their technology effectively, they need this tool. It provides a quieter classroom environment during this learning time. All the students appreciate your gift. Thanks again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barajas

At our school, we are fortunate to have access to online learning programs that are support our language arts and mathematics instruction. LEXIA is a program that increases the phonics knowledge and word-reading skills of students. Students work at their level and have the opportunity to move up levels with adequate practice and subsequent mastery. During daily math instruction, students utilize an online program called ZEARN that provides additional, concurrent practice and added explanation of our current lessons. The headphones I have requested will enable students to be able to better concentrate during this time, and utilize these special minutes more efficiently without outside distractions. In the last few years, I have purchased similar headphones from my own personal funds. However, I am unable to do so at this time. Many students struggle with focusing on their lesson when they are working independently. These headphones will greatly limit the distractions the students endure and they will be able to make every minute spent on their device productive.
