  • Fill It Up!

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Thank you all so much for your support in providing the toners that we need to keep out printer going. Your help is appreciated by my students and I. We cannot wait for our printer to be working again and start making books and projects. Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Liang

  • Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

Thank you for your support! The headphones were a hit in my class. No longer do I hear complaints of the earbud hurting their ears or that they can't hear anything. The kids' new headphones are so comfortable and allows the students to hear clearly. It works so well that they cannot hear me when I call them for small group work. The headphones help the students to stay focused and on tasks. It is sturdy that I no longer have to fix broken headphones. It made a huge difference! Thank you so very much.”

  • Print! Print! Print Away!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

The color printer is used to print colorful books that are at the student's reading level. The pictures in colors provide the students with more information about the text. Also, the students gravitate towards the colorful pictures.

They are excited to see the printed items and how they became a book.

Furthermore, the color printer enables the ability to print out writing charts for individual students to provide support during independent writing time. Also, the printer is used to print out pictures of students and their parent on the first day of school and it's displayed in our library. Those are the few things we have done so far. The possibility are endless!”

  • Wonder Robots for M. A.

    Funded Dec 30, 2016

Thank you very much for your donation! Your support made it possible for my students to use robots to learn math, technology, teamwork, and patience. My kids were so excited to meet Dash and Dot. They are now exposed to the very basic of coding. The robots help the class to learn about sides and vertices during our geometry unit.

They loved the fact that they could interact with the robot as well as to have Dash work with Dot. Just the simple hello from Dash gets the whole class excited. So to be able to have them learn how to code and see their coding come to life was magical.

This hands on activity and learning allowed my low readers to get excited and feel successful. One of my boys started to feel positive about himself. I can't wait to see what will happen as we get involve with Wonder competition next year.”

  • To Stand or Not to Stand

    Funded Sep 2, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your generous donation to this project. The table is now set up and is being used in our classroom. The students found the desk to be interesting but they weren't sure what it was for since we only have one set up.

The other day, I was able to utilize it for one of my student that needed to give a little space to others and he was able to use the table. The swinging bar allowed him to move around and kept him occupy in a more positive way. I am hoping this added option to our regular seating will assist my neediest student to be more focused and on task.

I can't wait to see how it will help my most difficult students in the classroom in the coming months as well as in future years! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

    Ms. Liang

  • Nonfiction! Nonfiction! Nonfiction!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

The students was so excited to receive the Scholastic News. They would often ask, "When can I take this home?" They look forward to getting their magazine each week.

Originally I wanted to provide students with additional resource for reading and writing to meet the Common Core standards. Now, I am also using the magazine as a vehicle to teach science, social studies, and health due to our school's demanding schedule which only left 15 minutes to teach science, social studies and health. The magazine topics address each subjects and it's a quick read with an activity that reviews what they just read about.

This resource provided the class opportunities to read about science like the life cycle of an apple. They were able to see pictures for each stages. For social studies, the students were able to talk about how to be a good citizen. We had a discussion about the quality shown in each picture. The title was "I Spy a Good Citizen" so the kids was spying on each other throughout the day to see who was a good citizen. It is so fun to see them learn and it is a time saves for me in preparing for the lessons.”

  • Ready, Set, Record! Do I Sound Like a Fluent Reader?

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

Thank you for your help in providing the much needed headphones. This year, we were pleasantly surprised with three new computers and thankfully the new headphones that you provided works with Apple computers too. Many classrooms in our school are still waiting for just plain headphones for their computers. However, not only do we have headphones we are the only ones that can record using the microphone that is on headphone. The recordings are clearer because of the microphone and the the kids can hear themselves instead of a recording with all the background noise in the classroom. The children uses the headphones on a daily bases and this tool helped them to concentrate on the online program and the fluency practice have also improve their reading fluency.

With the budget cuts and more teacher layoffs, I know that my school would never would have provided this tool for my first graders. It is only with the help of donors like you that our classroom and many others have the resource that are not only helpful but needed. Thank you! Thank you!”

  • Smartboard To Capture My First Graders

    Funded Oct 10, 2008

Thank you so much for your contribution! On behalf of my first grade class and the future classes, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Your help has made our Smartboard dream a reality”

    With gratitude,

Imagine walking in an elementary school that has 1,100 students. You see 6 large buildings that surround a blacktop playground with no grass and very little trees. You walk into one of twelve first grade classrooms and see three very old computers sitting in the corner that may or may not work properly. This is my world. I teach first grade and often the students that comes through my door are like a box of chocolates. Some that walk in the door with skills, some with little or no skills, and some may or may not speak English. However, all are lovable!
