Come Share My World

Thank you for contributing to Come Share My World. The students are excited when creating and sharing their current event journals. Who knew, colored paper could bring this much joy? Creating in black and white is great. However, color paper turned out to be an affordable, colorful and welcomed addition to our journal project. The Post-it easel paper is also a HUGE success. The extra large workspace allows students to move around and complete gallery walks like little adults. Seeing them work in collaborative settings is amazing. Additionally, the journal project allows students to create their journals and comment on their classmates' journals and gallery walk submissions in a civic and constructive manner. The ability to take constructive criticism and learn from it shows growth, tolerance, and gratitude. These characteristics are welcomed not only in the classroom but also in the community. The culminating project is to create flipcharts of their current event journal process, which we will share via YouTube, with a special THANK YOU to all our contributors. I look forward to submitting our finished products and updating everyone at the end of the school year.”

My middle school students are inquisitive! Many of them are fortunate to live with their grandparents & other close relatives. Their extended families provide additional educational support whenever possible. Unfortunately, many of the adult family members do not speak english. Assisting their children complete their projects becomes difficult and hampers their learning gains. This year the class received tablets & the students love them! They are able to complete their enrichment/remediation activities at their own pace, learn the daily content using multiple sources which complement their learning levels and styles (all which make learning new content more enjoyable & personally beneficially), & self monitor their reading process. I am amazed at the growth I have seen in these first few months. Our campus is located in a unique location which bisects cultural, social, & economic demographics. But in class, they are all the same...praying for no homework. Thank you.
