activitiesactivitiesThanks so much for your donation to me and my students. My students were excited to learn the steps of and produce a podcast using the new Ipod. Our podcast explains the need for citizens to establish wildlife habitats and why they are important. We used the soil testing kit to figure out what we needed to put in the soil in our new vegetable and flower beds. As a teacher, it is always amazing to see the animation on my students faces when they are involved in hands-on activites that involve real learning. Without the generosity of volunteers and Donors Choose, these students would not have this opportunity to expand their knowledge in such an enjoyable way. Thanks again! ”

  • What Can I Do For Oklahoma...Part 3

    Funded Apr 22, 2010

My students were so excited to begin the research on owls and to dissect their owl pellets. Dissecting the owl pellets was a perfect way to introduce scientific method and research for these students. This project provided a hands-on experience that made two complicated processes easier for students to comprehend. Thanks to donors like you. learning comes alive and makes a lasting impression on students. Thanks again for making my job, as a teacher, easier and learning for my students, fun and memorable.”

Thank you so much for giving the gift that allows my students to connect text-book knowledge with hands-on experiences. Research supports that my particular students are more likely to learn and retain information when it is presented to them in a concrete form.

My students were so excited when the packagages arrived and asked me daily when we would be in the garden. When the day arrived, I had every students undivided attention. They worked together to make an area to plant our first seeds.

Thanks again for making this learning experience available to the students in my room and kudos for the wonderful partnership that donors such as yourself have formed with not only my classroom but thousands of classrooms across the United States.”

  • What Can I Do for Oklahoma?

    Funded Oct 11, 2009

With this economy and being a Title I community, we really appreciate your generous donation to our classroom, this year. The items that we received were used to create hands-on learning experiences for students.

My students learned how to test soil for their outdoor gardens. Students also learned how to plot grids using the quad sects. This information will help us to establish our outdoor garden and create a wildlife habitat. We are looking forward to using the hurricane tracking system in the near future.

Your donation helped us to learn and apply science concepts that are difficult to grasp from textbooks alone. Thanks again.

We are a Title 1 school with 100% free lunch and 98% African-American population. Title 1 funds are used to secure materials that directly relate to building skills that relate to AYP and NCLB. This urgency leaves very little funds to spend on "hands-on" activities that develop that sense of inquiry and wonderment in students.
