  • An Inviting Book Nook

    Funded Sep 11, 2014

Thank you all again for donating to this project. As soon as the materials arrived in my classroom, the students were incredibly eager for me to get this little corner of the classroom set up. I have been working hard to establish a classroom where students WANT to read and are comfortable while they do so. The rug and pillows have helped to create this environment.

Students use the area for reading during their free time. Students will come to me and ask for permission to read at the carpeted area. In my reading classes, students work in groups to read chapters of novels and complete other tasks associated with the story. There is always a group of students working on the carpeted area! I've even had to encourage them to problem solve their own ways of sharing so that all groups can have time to work on the carpet!

While this doesn't directly affect my teaching or students' learning, I know that they are comfortable. They enjoy taking the time to work there or even relax during indoor recess! Some students who are reluctant readers can even be enticed to read if they can do so on the carpet and pillows!

You have truly helped to make my classroom a more comfortable reading environment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dougherty

  • Learning Through Technology

    Funded Aug 10, 2010

Thank you so much for your generosity in donating to this project. My students are having so much fun using the remote responders as a classroom tool. I am learning along with them the ins and outs of using these tools. We are all enjoying our learning experience and how it is enhancing our knowledge.

I believe that these classroom responders will be of great service to my current class and to classes in the future. Your donations have made this interactive learning experience a reality! ”

  • Classroom Management

    Funded Apr 6, 2010

Thank you for your donation. The Yacker Tracker has been a fun and helpful addition to my classroom management plan. While it has not yet solved the noise problem in my room, my students are becoming more aware of how loud they actually are!

In the pictures you will see students working with the Yacker Tracker in the back corner. The light is at green, which shows that students were using the appropriate volume at that time. I included a close-up picture with the light on green, as well. The other close-up picture shows the Yacker Tracker with the red light lit. While students were working independently, their volume level went above the preset decibels. The red light went off, and the alarm sounded. This alerted students to the fact that they were being noisy, and the classroom volume decreased.

I have noticed the biggest impact on my students during centers time. During centers time, I meet with small groups, and my students practice skills at stations of their choice. This was a time that I was constantly stopping work with my groups to ask students to get quiet. Oftentimes, I couldn't hear the students in the group, and they couldn't hear me! The monitoring with the Yacker Tracker has greatly improved this situation. Students are aware of how loud they are, and they are able to keep their volume low enough that the light remains on green.

In a busy classroom like mine, this Yacker Tracker has been a great help. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. ”

  • Math Madness!

    Funded Sep 29, 2008

Thank you for your generosity! My students and I are excited to get to the time and money chapters so that we can use the wonderful materials you have provided! As their teacher, I am thrilled that I will now be able to provide them with hands-on experiences to help them better understand time and money. Concepts like these are much better learned when they can be manipulated. Once again, thank you very much”
