Looking for a Good Quality Camera for Our Newspaper Staff
Funded Aug 21, 2018Our Journalism Class this year has 15 students, who started in September eager to write our school Newspaper! The first day, we were able to let them know, with YOUR donations, that we had a reliable, quality camera for our pictures! We always begin with the History of Journalism and then followed by Law and Ethics in Journalism, this year, our next unit centered around our new camera. We discussed how to properly take care of it, clean it and use it. Most of that unit became the techniques of taking good pictures with action. We had our Newspaper critiqued a few years back and the feedback we received was mostly about our pictures. They said we had too many "posed" pictures in our paper. Now, with your help, we were able to add action shots! It has given our paper more energy! Thank you so much for helping supply our classroom with "special items" not necessarily funded by the school. The students are forever indebted to YOU!”

Funded Sep 14, 2018Thank you all so much for your generous donation to update my classroom library! The particular books you helped me supply for my classroom are books that deal with issues in today's classroom. There is so much angst in our world today, that having these titles readily available for students to read is cathartic. Just this morning, I had a young freshmen crying in class. I could tell she was emotional and when I chatted with her outside the classroom, she broke down completely. I knew just the book to get into her hands, although later when she calmed down.
These books are current and relevant. Our curriculum focuses on the classics: Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, Animal Farm, To Kill a Mockingbird. We still have SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) the last ten minutes of class where the students get to read what they want to read. That is when I see the LOVE of reading- when they have YOUR books in their hands.
If you look at the pictures, I took a picture of my classroom library that I have spent 13 years growing. I really appreciate the donation you gave so that I can update my titles and keep it fresh and interesting. Thanks again!! :)”

Seats for Movement Without Distractions
Funded Aug 21, 2018Thank you for your generosity in funding my project to get some flexible seat options into my class! The Students LOVE them and use them every day in every class! I ALWAYS have students in every class who look for the special wobble seats and switch their usual desk chair for this option. If you look at the pictures, you can see the stools are used for many activities. It allows students to rock back and forth quietly without distracting other students. It is also very convenient for me to grab a stool when doing writing conferences with my students and easily move from desk to desk. Your generous funding allowed me to get one extra stool that I gave to our Special Education Department for her students as well. I tell the students that your generosity to our school allows us to have these special things and its up to us to pay it forward.”

Mrs. Carneal
