Technology for Students With Disabilities
Funded Oct 24, 2016Thank you so much for contributions! As a teacher at a low-socioeconomic school, our supplies and resources are very limited. Based on our statistics, our students with disabilities are reading well below grade level, and the use of iPads gave them another tool to help improve their reading scores. Your contributions allowed me to purchase iPads that allowed my students to have additional resources to conduct research about making cars out of water bottles and to use websites such as ReadTheory.org to help with their reading comprehension. The students are on ReadTheory.org on a daily basis in order to improve in the area of reading comprehension. For the students who have additional areas of needs, they are able to use MobyMax.com in order to work on sight words, phonics, and math skills.
My students found the iPads to be exciting, because the iPads are extremely portable. As you may know, some students have a difficult time remaining seated in chairs. The iPads allowed them to stretch out on the floor or sit in certain areas of the classroom in order to work on reading and math skills. Because the students were comfortable, they did not require much redirecting in order to stay focused on their tasks.
My students with ADHD really enjoyed the iPads, because the iPads held their interests for long periods of times. I wished that they could take their end of the grade tests on the iPads, because I know that they will be focused on the assessments. It is my goal to get more iPads for all of the students with disabilities. Again, I thank you for your contributions!”
With gratitude,
Dr. F.
