My school is a struggling Title I campus with high rates of transiency. Sixty percent are English Language Learners and 88% of our students are low income. Our teachers have their work cut out for them. As a student support interventionist, my job is to help the students who are most behind grade level. This means students reading 3-4 years below grade level in grades 4, 5, and 6. By this point, many of them have given up on ever catching up in school and this has damaged their self esteem. I pull students out of class and provide a safe place for these students to work at their own level. I need every resource possible to engage these students not only in my small group setting, but also to provide to their classroom teachers to engage these students alongside their peers throughout the day.
