  • Focusing for Success

    Funded Sep 4, 2024

Thank you so much for the noise-canceling headphones and privacy screens. When they arrived at school, our class was very excited to use these tools. The privacy screens and headphones are helpful for a variety of reasons.

One way the privacy screens are helpful is when our class is working independently or taking an assessment. The screens help to cut down on distractions, and the students can maintain focus on the task at hand. Another way they are helpful is when I am working with small groups, but each student is working on a different task.

One way the noise-canceling headphones are beneficial is when it gets a little loud in our classroom. They help to block out extra noise, which also helps students stay on task. They also come in handy for some students during assemblies. Assemblies can sometimes be very loud and overstimulating for some children. These headphones help to keep students calm.

We are so happy to have received this generous donation! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chase

  • Hands-On Learning for Science Exploration

    Funded Feb 4, 2023

When my students first saw our new class materials, they were thrilled! They couldn't wait for me to unpack everything so they could dive into them and explore more. I was pleasantly surprised when some of my students were already able to name some of the fossils and types of rocks. When one of my students picked up one of the black rocks and asked, "Is this obsidian?" I was amazed.

We have used these new materials to explore what happens during earthquakes and we have also used them to learn about why different Earth materials have different effects on how our planet changes.

My class especially loved using the fossils to compare them to fossils we discovered in the layers of the Earth during a different lesson. Being able to make these connections is the key for students to remember what they are learning for years to come. Thank you!”

    Mrs. Chase

  • An "Easel" Way to Enhance Reading and Writing!

    Funded Dec 29, 2017

Wow! My students love our new magnetic, dry-erase easel! This easel is making our class lessons in reading and writing so much more hands-on and interactive for the class. Students are eager for a chance to come up and use the easel, so this project is also helping with class participation as well as student attention!

Recently, our class easel was used as a display for our class version of the 2018 Olympic Games. Students were able to see which team they were apart of quickly, and this also presented a simple and easy way to display our team medal counts! Each afternoon, students would look forward to coming in from lunch and recess so that they could see who had been awarded medals in our various events.

Without the very generous donations we received from donors such as yourselves, we would not be able to have such wonderful experiences during our language arts lessons. On behalf of the class and me, THANK YOU! This gift means so much to us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chase

  • Full STEAM Ahead With Document Cameras!

    Funded Mar 13, 2017

Wow! My class loves working with our new document cameras! These document cameras are such a wonderful addition to our classroom because they are able to be used in a variety of ways. First, my students have used these document cameras to become more active and involved with group participation. When students are reading in small groups they are able to take a camera and a Chromebook and use the materials to display the text for all in the group to see. This has really helped students with being able to stay focused on the subject at hand, and has made a huge difference in student participation!

Second, my students are excited to take turns using the document cameras when we are working together during whole class instruction. I am able to project an artifact onto our whiteboard using a document camera, which helps with students being able to make sure they are where they should be during our lessons.

Lastly, these cameras have helped a great deal when explaining assignments. I am able to show students exactly what the task at hand entails and when we complete an example or two together, students see and are better able to understand what is expected.

My students and I are so thankful to have and be able to use such wonderful technology in our classrooms! Thank you so very much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chase

  • Hands on Math Manipulatives for Fact Fluency

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

My students are using their new math fact wrap- ups on a daily basis! The students who are fluent with their addition and subtraction facts are practicing with the multiplication and division wrap- ups . The students who are fluent with multiplication and division are practicing using the fraction equivalency wrap- ups. These math fact wrap- ups have really helped to reinforce fact fluency and increase our assessment scores.

When my students first saw the packages start to arrive they were curious to see what the boxes contained. When I introduced the wrap- ups the class was super excited and very eager to learn how to use them and get started practicing their facts in a new and exciting way. They love that they can use them when they have free time. They also love that they can use them to race with a classmates to see who can complete one the fastest.

In the fall, I will be utilizing these math wrap- ups beginning on the very first day of school. The sooner my students become fluent with their math facts, the sooner they will become more successful in all areas of math. Having a solid foundation on which to build, especially in math, is vital to overall success in school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chase

This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and one other donor.
My students are a wonderful, active, hands-on group of individuals. On a typical day, my students work together to help one another out with problem-solving and learning. My school is located in an area that is a mix of middle and low-income households. Having said that, my students do not let their limitations at home hold them back at school. When they are at school, my students are actively involved in taking control of their day and their learning. They sing, they laugh, they look out for one another.
