Coding for the Future

Funded Dec 5, 2022

First and foremost, words cannot adequately express my gratitude or that of my students for your generous donations. Your interest in helping the students in inner-city schools is commendable, especially during these past few years that have been so difficult for many of us.

Your generous donations have created a new way of learning that has made learning more interactive and engaging for my students. It has impacted the way I can deliver my lessons. I have a media club preparing for a Spring Robotics competition, and my students need constant practice and hands-on activities to prepare for the competition.

The laptop has become such a valuable tool and resource in my classroom. I have taken the time to purchase and download apps that can engage and challenge my students to learn how to code, use scratch, makey makey, micro:bit, code.org and even start programming their apps. I can do my live instruction and small groups using Google Meet if we need to go remote for a snow day or any other reason on a reliable device without any interruptions.

Thanks to the laptop, I can combine films, graphics, and music into my courses to make them more participatory and exciting. The ability to interact with, educate, and support my students' needs is what this new laptop allows me to do the most.

The laptop you donated will be used not only this year but for many years to come! I will always be grateful to you for giving us access to such a valuable and enriching instrument that will help my students learn.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Oquel-Hirsch
