Flexible Seating

My kindergartens absolutely love our flexible seating classroom. Parents have told me that their students talk all about the different seating options and what their favorite seats are. Each day, my students are excited to get to class each day to pick their seats. They love the flexibility and have taken ownership of the classroom. I can truly see the benefits of the flexible seating. I no longer have to remind a student to return to their seat.

Each day, students get to select a seat for the day. There are a variety of choices to meet the needs of all students in the classroom. Students are more comfortable than they would be in a traditional desk and chair classroom. During the first week of school, I taught my students how to use each seating option appropriately. The parents and students had to sign a flexible seating contract.

When my parents came into my room for open house, they were very excited to see the setup of my classroom with the flexible seating. They thought the bean bag chairs and the other comfy seats would bet suit their five year olds then the traditional desk and chair classroom. The students are comfortable and more engaged in the lessons.

I plan to continue my flexible seating option in my classroom. In addition to the items I received from being funded, I have added eight chairs made from milk crates, as well as, some folding chairs. I plan on adding even more flexible seating options.
