Being an effective communicator through different mediums is essential in today’s society. Today, videos are a staple in being able to communicate to not only students and staff at our school, but also members of our community. The students will be using the video cameras to create a multitude of projects that include: video blogs about daily student life, school bulletins to inform about upcoming events and daily school news, campaign projects that talk about important topics or issues in today’s society, and more. By creating these videos to share with the school and community, the students will address topics that are impacting them as they transition back to in-person learning. Students are used to communicating through talking and writing in the normal school day. Knowing how to use a video camera combines both of those forms of communication into one. Writing is integrated through the planning and writing of a script; being able to communicate one’s thoughts in a clear and concise way to get it across to the audience. Speaking is essential with videos as one must be personable and know how to communicate clearly on camera. Since there is no longer a digital media program at our school, students are able to learn new skills in different mediums, like video, to inform, educate, and communicate.
