  • A Culture of Reading

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support! I plan to use the supplies you provided to create a culture of reading in the school. As my students come down to checkout books, I will have the supplies available for them to get one as they checkout. They are very excited about getting them because I just made some off the copier. They were also marking their pages with a piece of tape. I don't want that because I don't want damages.

This is a big difference. Your contribution means a lot to me and my students! Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Monroe-Leach

  • Reading on Track

    Funded Oct 28, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support! I plan to use these reading journals my book club participates to keep track and reflect on what they are reading. I'm working to create a culture of reading at my school. I am using book clubs: students, staff, and parents, to stress the importance of reading and how its the foundation of everything.

I'm excited to unlock their potential and helping them with developing a love of reading by reflection. Your contribution means a lot to me and my students!”

  • Building Blocks to Digital Citizenship

    Funded Sep 28, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support! I plan to use the supplies you provided to use the Jenga sets for my students to re-enforce lessons on Digital Citizenship. These sets will help gamify my lessons and engage my students more deeply with the content.

I'm excited to unlock their potential while developing important 21st-century skills. Using this activity with my OCS and Adaptive students will help learning the information on a modified level. Your contribution means a lot to me and my students!”

  • Breakout of the Learning Fog

    Funded Aug 30, 2024

On behalf of the students and staff at [School Name], I want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to support our Breakout activities. Your donation of supplies has been instrumental in providing our Title 1 high school students with an engaging and interactive learning experience focused on digital citizenship and plagiarism awareness.

  • The Battle is On!

    Funded Mar 23, 2024

Thank you so much for donating these books for our Battle of the Books club. My students are very excited about reading this year. My goal with these books is to cultivate an atmosphere for the love of reading.

Students have already started reading the books over the summer and I can't wait for them to return to tell me about their books.

Again thank you for giving my students a chance to embrace to love of reading and expand their minds. I want them to read so much that they are able to research when they are told something. I'm building Critical Thinkers.”

  • The Battle Is On

    Funded Mar 8, 2023

The Battle is on is going to be a big hit with most of my Battle of the Books students. We averaged reading 80-100 pages between each meeting, and came in ready to talk about what we read - from opinions on the characters and plot to discussing predictions of what was coming next. Students are very excited about receiving these books so they can prepare for the competition.

We thank you so very much for the opportunity to strengthen our reading and collaboration skills. Again we thank you and greatly appreciated your donation.”

  • Adaptive Read a Loud

    Funded Dec 3, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to the adaptive learning class read aloud project. Students love reading and I can really tell you that these students love it when I read to them. They are going to be so excited to have these books added to the collection of books that I read to them. We also have special times of reading where the theater class acts out the books and this will give the theater class a variety of books to read and act out to the students. Again thank you so much for your generous donation.”

  • Empathy For The Homeless

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Thank you for all of your donations. We are glad that you believed in us enough to trust us with your money to buy the resources we needed to make kits for the homeless. These young men enjoy the reading and discussions from the book then they worked very hard at putting together the kits for the homeless. When we took a field trip for them to deliver the final project they were excited about having the opportunity to hand out what they made to the homeless. On our discussion back from the resource Center the gentleman stated that this was a humbling experience that they would never forget. Thank you for giving them this experience.”

Hi, my name is Angelina Monroe. I’m 16 and I love to read. Being the daughter of a middle school librarian, I’ve always been around books, whether that was books from the public library or books from my mom’s school. At first, I was an avid reader of fiction, reading books like “Pinkalicious” and “Dork Diaries”. As I started to age, I realized that not many of the stories that I had read reflected my lifestyle as a multi-racial child in a then single parent household. So, I turned my attention to non-fiction, reading about various countries and about engineering. Of course, I read all the required readings we had to do for class and I did like graphic novels like “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, but I dedicated most of my free time reading nonfiction just because I didn’t feel the connection I was supposed to feel with the fiction characters. In high school, I came across an article about a girl named Marley Dias, a 13-year-old girl who decided to collect books that show black female leads and was able to collect 1000 books with the help of her friends and family. That lead me to think “What would it take to collect books that have positive and encouraging multicultural lead characters in fiction books?”- Angelina Monroe I call it the Multicultural Literacy Project: Building Amazing Libraries. With your kind donations, you can help me collect fiction books with multicultural leads for our students to look up to.Now through December 31, 2018, donations can be made through Donors Choose. Donor Choose will start it off with 40 books. You can also donate books by sending the books to Media Services at 501 W. Washington Street Greensboro, NC 27401 in care of the Multicultural Literacy Project: Building Amazing Libraries.
