Team Building
Funded Oct 18, 2019I would like to "Thank you" for your generosity for presenting the school the opportunity to be able to secure the much needed sports equipment. Grades K-5 did not have adequate volleyballs, basketballs, sponge balls, or jump ropes. Somehow even the tools to adequately place air in the basketballs and volleyballs were missing. Today, physical education classes and recess is more engaging because they can play in more meaningful learning. Needless to say, the students are enjoying their new resources. Our girls basketball team, even though the season is over, are reaping the benefits of practicing and playing with adequate size basketballs. Warm-ups using the jump ropes have become quite a competitive sport. The students continue to challenge each other with how long they can jump, including sequential repetitions increasing one's coordination skills.
It is so important that as young people develop, we instill positive ethics that include building healthy bodies, strengthening, and discipline. Our students are bright and creative. Because we finally have the necessary athletic equipment, their energy has increased. Our students role-play, they encourage one another and are developing team leadership skills.
Our next steps is to acquire new basketball hoops and re-organize our boys basketball team. In addition, we are going to structure a collaborative boy and girls soccer team Spring 2020. Again, "Thank you" for your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jones

Funded Mar 27, 2018Participating scholars in our last production for the calendar year of 2017-18, James and the Giant Peach, were thrilled when they saw the teachers assembling the clothing racks. When completed, they happily assorted costumes and hung them according to their characters. Our scholars knew right away, they no longer were using desks as storage. The costumes finally had a 'home' without risk of them being wrinkled or lost.
As previously seen earlier in the year, our scholars visited the New York Metropolitan Theater (MET). We toured the wardrobe room complete with costumes categorically sorted and hung with tabs. Again, seeing our clothing racks, our scholars reflected on that experience. Encouraged, the drama teacher designated eager students to take on the job of being 'wardrobe coordinators'. This gave our scholars an exhilarating feeling of importance to maintain the costumes, which provided our young thespians the opportunity to perform without stress knowing everything was organized. I do not take our students for granted, but, I honestly believe, having the racks elevated their performance.
As we move forward in our development of the performing arts, the clothing racks will have many uses. They will be utilized during our dance rehearsals and concerts, music recitals, and special projects. In drama class, our scholars work in teams, writing, directing, and performing their own work, complete with a tech staff. One of those roles is a costume coordinator. That specific job requires them to find the wardrobe for those characters. Again, with the use of the clothing racks, the coordinator will be successful. He/she has somewhere to place garments in an organized and structured way.”
