  • Social Emotional Learning Activities for Students With Disabilities!

    Funded May 10, 2024

I feel so honored and grateful that you chose to donate to this project. Social emotional learning skills are so important and these tools will help my students grow and succeed in so many important areas. I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they see this new learning tools!”

  • Teaching Non-Verbal Students SEL with iPads!

    Funded May 13, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to this project! With your help, my students will be able to use the iPad and case to communicate their wants and needs.

Social emotion learning is such an important tool for all students to learn. Social emotion leaning skills encompass building relationships and understanding other people. A lot of times, students that have difficult communicating, will struggle even more with developing these social skills.

By having an iPad to use with these students, I can help develop programs that will be helpful to them in developing some of these relationship building skills.”

  • Managing Difficult Behaviors in the Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Dec 22, 2017

Thank you all so much for the continuous support you have shown my classroom. The new resources have made immense improvements into the behaviors in my classroom. My students now have the opportunity to earn rewards based on a "warm fuzzies" reward system. After we learned how the fuzzy reward system works, my students have been so excited to "get caught doing something right"!

Once a week, my students have the opportunity to trade in their fuzzies for various rewards, which were donated by this project. My students are so excited to look through the bins to see all the possibilities that they can earn each week! We can't thank you enough for the support that is allowing us to utilize these tools in our classroom!”

  • Sensory Needs For Students With Disabilities!

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

We can't thank you enough for supplying these great resources to our classroom. By incorporating these sensory friendly items, my students will be able to manage their behaviors better and therefore, succeed more academically and socially.

In the few weeks after the project was funded, we talked non-stop about the great resources that were about to arrive in our classroom. When the boxes arrived, my students were unable to contain their excitement. We received yoga balls as individual and center seats, slime, and kinetic sand to be used in centers. The seats had to be blown up and we were so excited to use them once we put air in them.

We use the yoga balls as seats at individual desks and at centers. When my students sit on them, they have the freedom to move around as they wish, while learning at the same time. On the yoga balls, they can bounce and roll side to side and by doing this, their negative behaviors will be minimized because they are utilizing the fulfillment of their sensory needs. We utilize the slime and kinetic sand in our centers as well, as a way to create a more freeing way of thinking. By using their hands to manipulate the items, my students can benefit from opening up their minds to achieving more academic success!”

  • Motivate for Success With Snacks!

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

My students and I could not be more thankful for the snacks that we have received from the donors. Every day my students count down until time comes where they can earn a snack as a reward for good behavior.

When the box arrived in my classroom, my students automatically became super excited. They had a feeling that it was something good for them. When we opened up the box and all the snacks were displayed, there were screams of joy and excitement heard around the room.

Because I work with students with emotional disabilities, most of them need some sort of Positive Behavior Intervention Support to help them stay on task and motivated throughout the day. Each day, the students are able to earn points that will get them one of new snack choices during the designated time period every day. Because of these wonderful choices of snacks, my students have continued using these snacks as motivation each and every day and when behaviors are limited, there is more opportunity for academic and social growth within the classroom.”

  • Building Good Energy Through Yoga- For Kids with Special Needs

    Funded Feb 17, 2018

Thank you so much for providing so much positivity and support in my classroom. My students are so excited to be able to use new yoga mats and materials in the classroom. Since we have begun this yoga project, my students are using what they have learned to self-calm, along with physical move to express themselves. Being able to see the difference in my students, after learning how to utilize these tools, has truly been amazing.

We had been practicing yoga for a while, just using the floor beneath our feet. When my students first saw the new yoga mats, they really couldn't contain how happy they were. Everyday since we have received our new donations, we have been getting "right on the mats" each day. My students, overall behavior, has improved so much since adding this new activity into our daily routine.”

  • A Leveled Library for a Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Mar 8, 2017

Thank you for the incredible amount of support you have provided to my classroom. My students, who all have special needs, read on a variety of levels. In my fourth grade classroom, I have students who read on the Kindergarten level, first grade level, second grade level, third grade level, and fourth grade levels. In order to keep the students engaged and be able to teach them on their individual level, it is important to have materials that are appropriate for each student.

In my classroom, we use differentiated learning centers to keep the students engages and excited while learning. When I am teaching ELA, we have a student-choice reading center where the students have the ability to choose their own reading material that is on their level. With the new leveled library that this donation provided, the students have the opportunity to grow while reading their own level. It's such a fantastic feeling watching the excitement on my students faces as they find all of the new books that were designed especially for them.

    Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martino

  • Differentiated Materials for Students with Disabilities!

    Funded Sep 9, 2016

My students have been having such a great using all the new resources that we received through this project! The classroom has taken on a new look and feel after incorporating the new name tags and using the new timer to help keep our group work organized!

When my students first saw the boxes that arrived in the classroom, they became so excited because they know from the past how great the Donors Choose items are! I opened up each box one by one and let the students make a circle around to help remove the new items. They were so excited to see new dry erase boards and markers because we use these regularly in our classroom!

After we received these new items, we want to use them to the best of their abilities. It will be great to see how they function in our group setting once we get used to having these great new supplies! We really can't thank you enough for all of your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martino

  • Reading Materials for Special Education!

    Funded May 4, 2016

We can not express how much we are thankful for all the supplies that you have donated to in our classroom. As soon as the box arrived in our classroom, my students knew that they were in-store for something good! We talk frequently about the Donors Choose organization and how lucky we are to be a part of something like this!

As always, I allow my students to open up the box and although we like quiet voices in the classroom, I always allow them to shout out what they see when the box is open. My students were so excited to see all the new resources for our reading center. In the box, they found new word work books, reading activities, and they were most excited to get a new bean bag chair. Having all these new resources in the classroom really helps getting my students excited to read in the classroom, which has always been one of the biggest challenges. We feel so fortunate to be in contact with generous people like all of you that really help make differences in the everyday lives of our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martino

  • Differentiated Learning Centers For Special Needs Students!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you so much for the incredible amount of generosity that you have showed towards my classroom. My students are having a fantastic time using the new resources that you have supplied. When the boxes from Donors Choose arrived, my students were unable to contain their excitement. They already knew from the past that when we received these boxes, that something good was in store! When we opened the boxes, my students became very excited. I explained to them that these resources were to be used in their learning centers and they were overwhelmed with joy. My students' favorite part of the day is when we work in our rotating small group learning centers. We put the new materials to use right away and my students had a blast working in their Word Work centers! With your support, my students are able to learn new information, practice learned skills, and have fun all at once.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martino

My classroom is an 12:1:1 class for students with ED. Currently, we have all boys. My students love to learn and are very eager to do so. Problems tend to arise in any lapse of time between lessons, so it is my goal to make my classroom as interactive as possible. My class is part of a larger school for students with special needs, but we are housed at an off-site location. Because of this, we do not have as many opportunities to leave the classroom. When my students are engaged, they tend to forgot about issues that affect them outside of class and the classroom becomes a positive learning environment for everyone.
