  • A New Girls Table Tennis Team for Brooklyn International Hs

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for helping me get our new girls table tennis team off the ground. Everyone is excited to get started and it would not have been possible without your generosity. Keep a lookout for a city championship in the near future!

Thanks again and I’m excited to share this news with the girls as we start a new school year.”

    Mr. Jackson

  • Out with the OLD and in with the NEW Technology

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

Thank you very much for your support for new technology as our school had been hit with major budget cuts for teacher equipment. My class will be directly impacted due to the new, fast, and powerful laptop you have contributed to. Your support for me and my immigrant students is very much appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jackson

  • New Technology for Remote and Blended Learning!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you for the support with some new technology for my classroom during this difficult year. Without your support my lessons on Zoom and even in person would have been much less interesting and more challenging for the students.

I have been able to complete more content and with greater ease than I thought during this pandemic year due to your generous support.

My plan is to continue using this technology into the foreseeable future and will continue to think of your generosity on a daily basis.”

    Mr. Jackson

  • Making Blended Learning Lessons More DYNAMIC!

    Funded Jan 6, 2021

Thank you again for all of your help with the technology that has enhanced the learning of my students during the pandemic -- my Zoom classes have become much more varied and dynamic due to your generosity! And now that we are moving closer to having most kids back in the classroom, the technology will continue to allow me to create more interesting and collaborative lessons.

The ipad has been the most important part of my Zoom classes as I can use it to annotate and draw on the presentation or worksheet while the students are able to follow along. The headphones have allowed me to run my classes from home while my wife sits through her Zoom meetings and my sons have their own Zoom classes. Being able to use the Apple TV in my classroom to Airplay my ipad or have the student connect their own computer screens has been an added touch that has allowed collaboration during a tough time of everyone maintaining 3-6 feet separation.

Your support is very important and I thank you again. I hope that you consider helping other teachers like you did myself in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jackson

  • New Headphones to Maximize the Impact of My Blended Curriculum

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you very much for the financial support to purchase a new set of high quality headphones and protective case for my history classroom. We do lots of work that requires using headphones -- watching of online history.com and BrainPop videos as well as playing the interactive historical video game series called Mission US.

Rather than using a textbook for our class we use a variety of multimedia sources and your financial gift has made that possible for many of my students - some kids cannot afford headphones or have the ones that are not compatible for our MacBook computers but now everyone is able to access the material. And they continually comment on how much they love the headphones and to safeguard them from "walking away" I can use the protective case to not just store the headphones but to store their cellphones or metrocards as collateral for when they use the headphones in class. This has also helped get some of them off their phones and begin to break an addiction that afflicts many of them.

Speaking for all teachers in NYC I would just like to let you know that we wholeheartedly appreciate your support and interest in our work. It is not easy but with the little extra financial support from folks like you, we are able to complete things we wouldn't have been able to. So, thank you thank you thank you!!”

    Mr. Jackson

  • Freedom Can You Hear ME?

    Funded May 25, 2015

Thank you again for the contribution you made to my classroom by helping us get a new class set of high functioning headphones to use for our work. My students spend much of their class time playing video games, watching videos on-line and listening to podcasts and the headphones have changed their ability to do so.

They love the style, color, and feel of the headphones and I definitely have seen more engagement due to their presence in the classroom.

Thank you for your continued support and I hope that you continue to turn to Donors Choose as a destination to help teachers and their students.

  • Bowling Team Equipment

    Funded Nov 26, 2013

On behalf of my boys here at the Brooklyn International High School I would just like to thank you for your generous donation to help us buy new and improved bowling equipment for our team. Our ability to compete with the other schools in New York City has been greatly improved.

For years we have used the 'plastic' bowling balls that are at each bowling alley and actually competed pretty well and won many matches, but now with top of the line balls and accessories, I feel that the boys will be able to win more matches and feel better as a team as we will be able to advance further in our competitions each year.

Thank you again for taking an interest in me, our school, and our boys bowling team. It means a lot to me and we will do our best to make all of you proud your supported us.

    Thank you.

  • Bring U.S. History Alive with 3D Printing!

    Funded Nov 18, 2013

I would just like to thank you for the support with my 3D printing project for my classroom. I has really given the students another option for projects when choosing how they will complete their work and "show" what they have learned.

So far students have made some relief maps of the United States, an electoral college map of the United States, various symbols that represent their work, and even statues of famous Americans.

It is a neat to watch them design the object, see their faces in excitement when it finishes printing, and then as their work gets displayed around the room.

After a few glitches with the product, it has been a great addition to my classroom and curriculum.

Thank you again for the help.

Our school has 380 students who are all recent immigrants, come from over 52 countries, and speak over 30 languages. They are hard working, supportive of one another, dedicated to their education and their families, and want to experience as much of the American Dream as immigrants throughout history. Many work to support their families and many more take care of most of the family responsibilities. They are not the children of diplomats but of day laborers and bodega workers. They desire to have a successful and fruitful life in America and truly understand that education is the first stepping stone to their new journey. They show up everyday, work hard and appreciate all that is provided to them by our city and country. I teach them United States History but also how to bowl. They have come to love the sport and more importantly, being apart of a team and competing for the school that they call a second home.
