Need for Speech

Funded May 12, 2014

Let me start by saying thank you so much for your support and donation! It really was so exciting to see this project get funded. My students are having a blast using our new word ball and comprehension games. When the materials arrived and were brought into our classroom, all of my students immediately noticed them. They quickly noticed the new printer, pocket folders and of course the word ball and comprehension games. Every time they had speech they would say, "can we do the word ball activity or the comprehension game?" They were so excited to get to use these new resources.

During speech sessions we used the word ball to play catch games, while the students answer the questions the ball brings up. The word ball also helps students work on their turn-taking skills. My students love this! The printer of course is such a wonderful addition to our room, as we are now able to make copies from our articulation and language books to use at any time. We can work on spatial concepts using our cut and paste worksheets, which are so engaging for the children. The pocket folders are being used to hold sticker charts for the students. The sticker charts help motivate them to participate and try hard during the session. At the end of the session the students know to go look for their name on the pocket folder to get their chart. The comprehension games were so much fun to play! My students were engaged and motivated to do well in order to get more points and get an additional sticker on their chart.

Overall all of these new materials have been great! I have more resources that I can use to help my students reach their goals. I feel that students gain better understanding when they are engaged in an educational but fun hands on activity. If students are not able to see, touch and try for themselves, it makes learning so much more difficult. While students might think they are just playing a game, the truth is that they are learning and gaining better understanding. Thank you again for your generous donation and support.”

With gratitude,
