Organized Classroom Effective Learning!

Funded Apr 2, 2017

Thank you so much for funding our project to help organize our classroom materials. The Kindergarten students are using the colorful pencil cups and tubs to organize the art materials and library books. They are using the white board easel for self-directed activities such as writing and reading sight words during center time.

One particular project we did was to create a good citizen circle map as a whole group and then follow up with individual illustrations and written responses on ways to be a good citizen. The students shared the colored pencils, crayons, and markers at their table groups which were organized in cups and tubs that we received from our donors. This enabled the materials to be easily accessible at each table group. Prior to our durable, colorful cups and tubs we were using broken cool whip tubs for crayons and cardboard boxes for books. Our class library books are now housed in color coded big tubs. The books are easy to locate and enjoy during reading center time. The students assigned to library duties are motivated to keep the library neat and organized.

When the students first saw the materials they were delighted! They began to sort their art materials into the cups and tubs and helped me transfer library books to the big tubs. The easel was also a fast favorite during Language Arts center time as it was not only used for teacher instruction, but the students were able to use it to write and read sight words.

The next steps are to use the materials to illustrate and write thank you letters to our soldiers. We will use the white board easel to do a circle map as we share out ways we are thankful for our military. The students will then use the art materials kept in the cups and tubs to illustrate their feelings and gratitude. We will present the letters at our Assembly.”

With gratitude,
