Lodging in DC
Funded Feb 16, 2018Your donations couldn't have went to a better use! We traveled down to Washington D.C. on May 18th, on an incredible bus! Upon arriving at our hotel, our students dropped off their luggage, and we began our journey to The National Mall.
When we arrived at The National Mall, our first stop was The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. While there we conducted a Scavenger Hunt, (where the students had to work together in teams to find different objects in the museum.) After the museum, we journeyed to The Washington Monument, The White House, The Lincoln Memorial, The Capitol Building, and Lafayette Square all by foot! The students had such an incredible time, that the walking was almost unnoticeable. Along, our adventure we stopped and grabbed lunch at America's most famous fast food place, McDonald's! Once lunch was over, we went to one more museum! We traveled over to The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. While we were there we conducted another Scavenger Hunt (which became very intense, and fun at that!) Once it was time for the museum to close, we headed to our reservations for "Escape the Room," (another team building activity that we planed out for the students.) Playing the "escape the Room," game exceeded our expectations because the students worked together like never before to achieve a common goal, ESCAPING the room! At the conclusion of "Escape the Room," we walked over to Carmine's NYC Restaurant for dinner.
While attending Carmine's for dinner, the students assumed that they were there for dinner and dinner only before we were to travel back to the hotel for the night, (but little did they know that we had a surprise in store!) When we were allowed into the private room for dinner, we presented each student with a personalized book bag, an I.S 2 Debate Team t-shirt, and a water bottle. After receiving these items the kids were ecstatic, and we continued our dinner, (little did the kids know, the surprises were just beginning.) Once we completed our main course, we told them that our dinner party was actually an awards dinner party! We presented trophies to the students and completed our day in D.C with a BANG!
Before departing D.C and heading back to N.Y.C we stopped at Georgetown University and met with some of the members of their Debate Team. Georgetown's Debaters gave us some unforgettable pointers, that will certainly help us moving forward as a team. After we left their debate team, we went to the bookstore for souvenirs, before departing home. Thank you again for an unforgettable trip!”
