  • Let's Hit the Notes

    Funded Mar 8, 2024

Thank you fr the xylophones and the boomwhackers.

These instruments have already been used with many of our young music students from Kindergarten to Third grade. This instrument is helping students understand how to connect Solfege (do-re-mi) to the letters of the notes. For example, C is Do. The kids have enjoyed playing songs from "I'm a Little Teapot'' to "Baby Shark" and more... Your generosity is appreciated and thanks to you the kids really love hitting the notes.

Thank you so much for recognizing the therapeutic value of students playing instruments. As someone who found solace in music during my childhood with artists like Howard Jones, Prince, and the Go-Gos, I deeply appreciate your efforts in introducing new instruments to the students and this helps teach various genres of music. You are also supporting their musical interests.

Your generosity is appreciated and thanks to you the kids really love hitting the notes.”

  • Ukulele's for All Hands

    Funded Dec 21, 2023

Thank you so much for the ukuleles! The students are absolutely ecstatic about learning to play popular new songs like "Flowers" and classics such as Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

They are mastering the string names and easy chords,"C, Am, F, G" and some may even progress to learning the guitar next year. Your kindness and dedication to music truly shine through, and we truly appreciate you for it!

Thank you so much for recognizing the therapeutic value of students playing instruments. As someone who found solace in music during my childhood with artists like Howard Jones, Prince, and the Go-Gos, I deeply appreciate your efforts in introducing new genres and supporting their musical interests.

I know you have many options of where to donate I really appreciate that you chose music. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

  • A Ukulele Class Grows in Brooklyn

    Funded Sep 18, 2021

Thank you for funding our Ukuleles. I am a kindergarten teacher at PS 297 and I began with teaching my class how to hold the ukulele. From there we moved into learning the parts of the ukulele. Next, we learned how to strum the ukulele and learned several strum patterns. Students also began learning chords they learned to play the c chord, and the F chord. The kids were so excited to learn to play real chords. We also had an after school program where 2nd graders got to play as well and this group really loved playing to play along videos.

As teachers we often use the term home/school connection which is students learning in home and in school. To that end, one thing the students really enjoyed was getting to take the ukuleles home. Some parents immediately sent me videos of their children practicing at home. Some students really took the instruments and made it their own and started writing songs. Also some played along to their favorite songs to various levels of being in rhythm but the main point was that they loved it and their love of playing grew and grew. Some kids would come back to school on Monday after the weekend and ask if I saw the video they made and were so excited to share with their peers as well.

Next week we even have students performing for Kindergarten stepping up ceremony. These instruments have added so much to our students school experience and increased their exposure to music by 100%”

  • Ukeleles Grow In Brooklyn

    Funded Mar 31, 2014

I am thrilled beyond words and grateful that you sponsored our ukulele project. It is so generous of you! I think it is people with the best hearts and minds that support music in NYC public schools.

I know my students are going to love learning how to play the ukulele it is especially perfect for my first and second graders. The guitar can be difficult and frustrating to younger children. However, students will be less overwhelmed with the ukulele and more confident learning chords and songs.

I can't wait to get these ukuleles in their hands. We will play many genres of music including Country, Folk, Hawaiian and Rock.

Please know your generosity will result in hundreds of little musicians playing ukulele for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kasimow

  • Teaching Music Students How To Become Musical Engineers

    Funded Aug 30, 2013

On behalf of the students at PS 1, I would like to thank you all so much for your generous donation towards the IPAD for our music room. The students and I love it and it has become simply an invaluable part of music class.

From the first moment students enter the room I take attendance on the IPAD. The program I use has photos of all the students which helps me remember their names since I have over 600 students. Next, we set a timer on the IPAD and this helps encourage students to focus and participate in the days lesson. When the timer goes off a student is selected to go play a music app on the IPAD. Students love "singing fingers" and the "piano" app. I also allow the IPAD winner of the day to record a video on the IPAD of the last 3-5 minutes of class. Usually to record students singing or playing various instruments including recorders, xylophones and guitars.

It is so helpful and inspiring for students to see themselves on a video. One student said "I'm really playing guitar good this year" after watching themselves. I appreciate your support of technology in the classroom it has made a huge impact on the students and been helpful to me on a daily basis.

Once again, thank you for your generous donation.”

  • Shanti Yoga for Children

    Funded Sep 22, 2006

I am so excited that with your help I will be able to bring the joy and benefits of yoga to children. Actually the word has gotten around school that I will be teaching yoga to children and my principal has asked if we can set up an additional class and use the mats to teach a class for teachers. Trust me the teachers need yoga as much as the kids and this is going to be a very exciting opportunity to improve mental and physical help to students and teachers! Thank you so much for your generosity! Namaste”

I really want to thank you for making this program possible and I know my principal and the kids thank you too!!! Your generosity will help inspire these young dancers!!!! I can't stop smiling, thanks again!

I have loved teaching elementary students for the past 10 years and feel it is a necessity to combine music, dance and yoga to inspire young scholars. This year I am fortunate to become a full time music teacher. "I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music." Billy Joel
