I am a teacher for math and science and currently planning a STREAM Family Night. A STREAM night is an evening filled with hands-on activities that include Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This event requires a lot of resources/materials and can be a bit challenging for our school budget. Last year was our very first time to implement such an evening and it was a huge success. However, our resources and materials were very limited. In offering these family nights it gives our students the opportunity to design and build that can easily be completed in 10 minutes with the support of their family. In addition, this event also gives the student and parents the opportunity to connect and explore the importance of integrating ALL subject-areas. The goal is that we are able to inspire a young scientist, engineer, mathematician, librarian, artist or any other STREAM-related career.
The items I requested are excellent resources for my fun and engaging STREAM Night. I am planning to set up different rotations where the students and their families can explore and create. They can use the 3D doodler to create a 3D model/structure. I also want to use the science specimen kits so that students can vividly observe different life forms. A big component of STREAM Night is the math therefore I need materials like the dominoes, hundreds chart, time mat, etc. I love that as a teacher you can integrate all subject area and this night will show the students how to use math skills along side with engineering. I will use the K'nex as activity center for students to explore math and science. The materials and or resources are all important and will provide the students the opportunity to explore their possibilities!
