  • Creating Future Scholars Through Reading!

    Funded May 16, 2022

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for funding my project. Having this library will enable me to help my struggling readers achieve their reading goals, and hopefully spark a love of reading within them. Due to the lack of in person teaching due to the pandemic, a lot of my students are struggling. The materials funded in this project will definitely aid in helping them reach their fluency goals.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moore

  • Future Mathematicians And Writers Wanted!

    Funded Oct 10, 2014

My class and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your gift to our classroom. When I first introduced the computer to the classroom they were super excited. Especially after I told them that we would be able to view our math lesson, as well as view grammar videos on it. They were surprised that someone would give us something so nice. One of my students said "Why did someone want to buy us a computer"? I replied with "Because they want to make sure you are exposed to technology as well as make sure learning is fun and exciting for you.

We use our computer through out the day in various subjects. During language arts especially during vocabulary I use the computer to show them pictures of certain vocabulary words so that they get a visual depiction. Also I show them grammar videos, we play grammar games. And during math I teach my lessons with interactive videos which the kids love.

Well learning has become more engaging for my students. A lot of kids are stimulated with visuals and allowing my students to see what I'm taking about makes the information real. Math in our class has become an exciting event. Instead of the students sitting and listening during the direct instruction time of my lesson they are engaged with the animated visuals and I can see the excitement the videos give them. I allow them to interact with the video because i project them on the board and they are able to come write answers to the math questions on the board as its projected from the computer. Once again thank you for kindness and generosity. You gave my students something that will enrich their lives and broaden their minds.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moore

My students are typical first graders with a lot of energy and a thirst for expressing themselves vocally. The majority of my students are African American and reside in a lower middle class residential area. My school is on the smaller side which makes it feel like more of tight-knit community. What I love about my students is their thirst for knowledge and their honesty which can be very entertaining.
