Calculators and Math Magazines, a Helpful Addition

I have received my calculators and the 2013-2014 issues of Scholastic math magazines. As the title suggests, what a helpful addition. The calculators are basic four function calculators, but are designed to look like iPhones. When a student was sent to the office to get them, she came back and said, "Mrs. Guillory, the calculators are really cool." Another student replied, "How cool can a calculator be?" When I pulled one out of the box to show the students, there was a collective OOOHHH! It was so cute.

The Scholastic math magazines are wonderful. We are using them frequently. I think the favorite activity, so far, has been the Super Bowl edition. They are anxiously awaiting an activity utilizing the Olympic edition that we received last week. These magazines are so great, because they are current and relevant.

For all my students to have access to the same calculator, I can do my job of teaching math concepts (not calculations) much more effectively. Every student has the same tool. No one is at an advantage or disadvantage. The use of current and relevant information provided by the Scholastic math magazines boosts the interest level of my students and makes learning more fun. I can't thank my donors enough!”
