Infusing Architectural Math to Create Gingerbread Structures

Funded Dec 5, 2013

We cannot thank you enough for your wonderful support! When the boxes came in with our projector and screen, the students were so excited. Being in High School, I allowed the students to read the directions and set up the equipment themselves. That alone was a wonderful learning experience.

After creating their gingerbread designs and breaking down the pieces mathematically, the students used the new equipment to share their ideas/designs with their classmates. Public speaking and presentation is difficult for many of my students. Some due to shyness and many due to language. As they described their designs verbally, the equipment visually showed the design. I observed that having the visual raised the presenters confidence that their classmates would understand. It worked! We saw some of the best presentations we've ever seen in my classroom.

I'm looking forward to utilizing this new equipment in other projects throughout the school year. When students teach each other, the classroom comes alive. I love being a teacher. Seeing my students confidence rise while presenting is a true gift to me. Thank you for supplying my classroom with teaching and confidence building tools!”

With gratitude,
