  • Flocabulary to Increase Our Vocabulary!

    Funded Dec 15, 2020

We are ever so thankful to have our project fully funded. We have used Flocabulary in the past with teachers paying for it out of pocket because we believe in the power of music in young minds. We use it across all subject areas and refer back to the songs often when recalling skill, facts and process in class. We are so lucky to be face to face this year but our students who have been virtual have also been able to benefit from this program. We already have some favorites including the Vikings song as well as the cause and effect song!

Again, Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hastings

  • Fluency To Build Fluency

    Funded Dec 29, 2013

My student were so excited to see our new listening equipment! Some were expecially interested in the tape player because they had never seen one! We have put our new equipment to good use in our daily five stations. We also use our spliters and headphones for computer lab time.

I can already see the improvment in our fleuncy. We are recoring and listing to ourselves on a weekly bases and it is helping tremindously.

We have also developed a new love for older books due to being able to listin to them on tape. We have also recorded our favorite books to share with each other.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hastings

My fabulous firsties are budding readers who love to dive into a new book. With budget cuts for materials and virtually no money for text books, our school is fighting the battle of not being able to receive title one funds but still needing to support our little learners. This year we have taken on school wide Guided Reading. I have chosen to implement this in the form of The Daily 5. My students have loved this program! I am hoping to add to their passion for reading by adding to our Listen to Reading rotation. In this portion of The Daily 5, students listen to fluent readers read and follow along in order to build new vocabulary and build their own reading fluency. We are currently lacking the materials to allow more than one child to take part in this rotation at a time.
