As my second graders are working towards becoming lifelong readers, it's important that they are exposed to all kinds of books. Half of our reading standards are based in non-fiction, yet the majority of the independent reading they choose to do is fiction. I am trying to build a collection of non fiction books on engaging topics that will allow my children to find a love for reading all kinds of texts. I hope to have a collection that represents different topics, interests, and reading levels in order to teach my students that all kinds of reading can be fun!
