My goal is to acquire an iPad Pro to wirelessly mirror (through AppleTV) onto the widescreen TV I currently have in my classroom. This will be an important integration of a powerful technology and significantly increase student engagement and participation. Being able to pass the iPad and pencil to a student and have them complete a task while the rest of the class watches on the screen at the front of the room would greatly improve the flow and level of student engagement in my class. Students benefit from watching other students work through problems. However, the traditional means of doing this (calling students up to the board) is ineffective in several ways. It interrupts the flow and momentum of the lesson, especially when students are reluctant to work in front of the class. Being able to hand a student an iPad on which to do a task will allow more students to participate, since less class time is wasted; relieve some of the stress associated with standing in front of the class; and allow students who might have accessibility issues associated with walking to participate more in class. The other major advantage of having access to an iPad will be that I would no longer be tethered to the front of the room either at my own computer or at the white board. Maintaining proximity to students is one of the most important strategies for effective classroom management. In addition to these benefits, the iPad platform is home to a large and constantly expanding selection of interactive educational apps, including Apple's own new education initiatives. The iPad Pro would be the first step in bringing iPads to all students in my classroom.
