In their engineering class, students used technology for word processing, drawing with sketch up (the free Version), 3d printing and some basic coding. For the upcoming school year, I want to take them a step further by exposing them to more coding and robotics. Recently, four students, I and a math teacher participated in NYU’s ITEST program. This experience forced me to realize the magnitude of work that we must put in to bring our student to the level where they can participate comfortably in such events. Funds for this project will open up novel pathways and experiences for my students in concrete ways. The micro: bit microcontrollers and starter kits will allow my students to program simple games, alarm systems, heart rate monitor and many other things of interest. These initial activities will enable our students to learn and develop necessary robotics skills that will form the foundation for more advanced studies in the field. Additionally, it will serve as a motivator for other students to join the STEM / Engineering Program.
