Since this is my first experience teaching upper grade students, our classroom library needs you! It will be a great surprise to have a functioning classroom library with shelves of multicultural books upon returning to in-person learning. In addition a vocabulary building program, Flocabulary, that is able to activate an interest at the students' level during remote learning. The books will be used as teacher reads text aloud to students, before being placed in a basket of teacher's weekly pick to gain, inspire and motivate an interest. Rereading a book of interest is helpful too. Learning through repetition is a desired need for Diverse Learners. My students will have the opportunity to reflect, share, and give feedback on selected books. The Flocabulary learning program uses educational hip-hop music to engage students and increase achievement across the curriculum. Flocabulary is effective for both increasing word knowledge and student engagement. During remote learning and Flocabulary engagement, students will increase the relationship between lyrics and rhythm making new words easier to remember (i.e., linguistic memory). While advancing vocabulary skills through synchronous and asynchronous learning, students will continue to gain vocabulary strengths at a time when academic/emotional challenges are minor but evident. With your help, we can build a classroom of learners who are excited about reading/vocabulary building in a fun and powerful way!
