  • Stand, Bounce, Learn

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

With immense gratitude, my class and I want to thank to all the donors for their generosity in contributing to our project in acquiring new furniture for our classroom to provide my students with "Flexible seating" Your donations allowed my students to have a sense of choice. They can choose which seat fits them best. For example, some of them liked to seat on the bouncing balls with their desks at eye level, while others preferred to seat on the bean bags to do their work like if they are at home seating on their couch or just adjusting the high of their desk to work standing. This flexibility of choosing where they want to seat, not only helped my students to have a seat that is comfortable for them, but it allowed them a sense of responsibility because as they grow up and go out there on the real world, they will be prepared to make decisions on bigger things when we allow them to choose on the smaller things. Another benefit from your contribution with this project was comfort. Providing them with a seat that is comfortable for them led them to be more calm, collected and in turn more productive in learning. This movement when using flexible seating had improved my students' critical thinking and focus. Moreover, having easy access to flexible seating, any time we needed to work in small groups or work with a partner, the round tables allowed my students to have a bigger space to work. This gave them a little more variety, building on them a higher level of concentration, collaboration, and creativity. Your generous contribution to this project had also helped my students' sensory issues, providing them an opportunity to stimulate their sense of touch; therefore, flexible seating promoted higher level of thinking and information processing.

Once again, we can't thank enough to our kind and amazing donors, who have made a reality to my students to get access to a flexible seating. We appreciate all your support, advocacy, time, and donations to our project.

Note: We are sharing some of the activities we did in class using flexible seating😊”

    With gratitude,

  • Let’s Do It Together to Read Better!!!

    Funded Jan 11, 2022

To begin with, my class and I want to thank the many generous donors who gave books to add to our classroom library. Your donations have helped nurture a love of reading and writing with my students of low-income, at-risk, and rural children in the self-contain autism unit at Everglades K-8 Center. After reading, students drew illustrations about their book of choice; they created power points about the reading skill we reviewed for the week and presented to the class. Also, they wrote similar stories about the book they read and presented it to the class. They used their laptops to take pictures of characters feelings to then put them together on word or power point to share later with the class.

Every week, my students got to choose their very own books to take home and share with their families to read together, this was possible because of your generous donations.

Having access to these books you donated, my class is sponsoring "Family Literacy Celebration" the main goal of doing this is to engage parents and families in their child's literacy development.

Thank you again to our amazing and kind donors, who have made possible to add more books to our classroom library giving us this indescribable educational experience through literacy. We appreciate all your support, advocacy, time, and donations to share the joy of literacy with my children at Everglades K-8 Center.

Note: We are sharing some of the activities we did in class using the books😊”

    With gratitude,

  • 6th and 7th Graders Incorporating STEM in the Classroom

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and students. The additional resources have been so helpful to myself and my students. Most of the items donated may sound like they are small and insignificant, but to us, they are a great deal.

Our students need to prepare for their state tests using calculators, but when we have a shortage in class, it is hard for everyone to prepare equally. Before your donations came in, the students had to share or they didn't even want to bother waiting. Unfortunately, this usually means the students sit on the day of the test with a calculator, but don't know how to use it properly. Also, the students are asked to complete computer programs that need audio and if they don't have headphones, it is impossible for them to answer correctly. Without headphones, many students just guess because they can't hear. Therefore the earbuds are priceless.

My students whose first language is not English has benefited from the voice translator greatly. This has really been a lifesaver for both of us. I can not express enough how grateful I am for your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Avila's Success Classroom

  • Learning Spanish Through Literature

    Funded Dec 17, 2013

My class and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts your kindness and support to education. My class not only enjoyed participating in this play, but this play provided them the opportunity to learn to work as a team to support each other and brought on them the unity that it is need to accomplish a goal. Parents were very grateful and amazed to see their child's abilities performing in Spanish. Most of all, the memories the students will keep for the rest of their lives. As a donor you made this possible for my students. Thank you very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Avila's Success Classroom

This group of students that I am working with comes from different cultural backgrounds. The majority of them are not native Spanish speakers. They are very eager to learn and explore new things including a new language like Spanish. The school is located in Miami, Florida; it is a small, family oriented school. This was one of the first public schools to be built back in 1911. The school offers an International Studies program in French and an International Education Program in Spanish. I am the first grade Spanish teacher.
