Using a flexible seating plan and large group rug allows us to make optimal use of the space we have. With our new classroom having limited space we will benefit from having a large carpet space where students can work together with the teacher in whole group teaching such a shared writing, music/movement, and close reading. It will also double as a place for them to work independently with their lap desks and dry erase pockets for writing activities. Ball chairs will allow movement for those with trouble sitting still. Allowing students to make choices in their seating arrangement helps them reach their optimal potential. It teaches them to become more in tune with their own abilities and strengths. These options also give the students room to spread out, have their own room to work and also helps with those who have problems interacting. It creates a more comfortable way for them to slowly join groups as they become ready.
