I teach at a Title 1 school in California. My students are in a Dual Language program where they learn to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish. I have a very intelligent group of students who love to read! This makes me want to expose them to as much reading material as I can. These students do not always have reading materials at home, so they borrow books from our small school library or from my even smaller classroom library. Unfortunately my classroom library does not have a whole lot of chapter books in Spanish. It also does not have enough non-fiction books that our students are required to read. Now that Common Core Standards are here, our students need to be reading a lot more, especially non-fiction books. I would love to stock my library with great books and novels, but unfortunately the cost can be too much.
