  • Wobble Our Way into English Proficiency!

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Having the tools to be successful has been a huge asset to my ELD (English Language Development) groups. The mobile cart and chart on wheels allows me to carry all my teaching supplies to and from 6 classrooms a day with ease. They can always hear me coming and are ready and excited for me when I get to their rooms.

The newcomer (students who are new to the country) pull out groups I work with of English Language Learners have also really loved wobbling as they learn. They fit with ease around the table due to the small base of the wobble chairs, and allowing their bodies to fidget while they learn has really helped them engage with their learning. Many students who said zero words at the beginning of the year, are already sharing their thoughts in English.

Your generosity really helped jump start a successful school year for the many kids we serve.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gallusser

  • Help Us Learn With Technology!

    Funded Dec 23, 2016

Our class is so blessed to be the recipients of this amazing opportunity through technology. It has always amazed me how quick students pick up on the true benefit of having access to technology in the classroom. They have taught me as much as I've taught them.

We now have 4 chrome books that can be used at multiple times through out the day. They are always in the back of the room, and kids are able to use them for progress monitoring in reading, publishing writing work, and accessing differentiated tools for reading, math and writing. This has made a world of difference in our classrooms. All kids have a google log in and have been using it all year, so by the time we received the chrome books they needed little support to log in. They were able to use them right away to access the information they needed in the moment.

Kids are also excited to be able to use the chrome books for research. We verify our information by using multiple sources and are able to use these sources to verify our information is accurate. Kids have learned a lot about reputable internet sites and why it is important to make sure they are getting the facts. Having access to computers in our classroom has been such a great tool.

We are currently studying the People of Oregon and have designed a frieze, or setting in our classroom, of a Native Tribe. Kids have been able to think with a lens of cultural competence while developing who they are in the tribe based on research we have done around Native American stereotypes. Kids have become aware that they need to be cautious when representing a culture that may not be familiar to them.

It has also been amazing to have the listening stations in the classroom. Kids have baskets in the back of the room with an iPad and classical studying music. During times of quiet independent work, they can get a listening station to better focus on their work. I have been impressed with the impact of these stations. Kids also use the listening stations to listen to reading, which helps with fluency and accuracy in reading. There is a group of 4 students who are really grateful for the station and have gone up exponentially in reading fluency.

Please accept our true appreciation for your generous gifts. The impact this technology has had on our classroom is only beginning. We have so many more ideas, and can't wait to explore all our possibilities.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gallusser

Students in our 4th grade class would greatly benefit from a set of 4 Chromebook computers to add to our classroom technology. We are a school with a project based focus and because of our need to research and access information outside the classroom, having a student set of computers would allow kid's projects to flourish. Students would be able to have more individualized access to learning with the availability of a listening center. Kids would be able to listen to text at their level and advance their reading level using multiple online tools. It is also crucial that students are able to access their google classroom accounts in the classroom. This would allow kids to access individual projects and have the option to project their presentations. There are many kids in my room who struggle with writing. Kids who have challenged motor skills can use the computers to type rather than write certain tasks.
