My students are mainly Hispanic with limited English skills. Usually, one or both parents cannot speak any English. In addition, my school is a Title I school that is 100% free lunch. Generational poverty is not uncommon among my students. Despite these conditions, my students want to learn but find it difficult through traditional means. They become easily frustrated and discouraged with the use of traditional textbooks. However, they are drawn to all technology and become engaged in difficult tasks without giving up.
