Grabbing Readers' Attention With Graphic Novels
Funded Jan 11, 2025We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation to our library project. Because of your support, we are able to purchase graphic novels that will inspire and engage our middle school students. Graphic novels are not just fun to read; they help students improve their reading skills and spark their imagination. Your contribution will make a big difference in their learning experience, and we can't wait to see the excitement on their faces when they explore these new books! Thank you once again for believing in our project and supporting our students. We truly appreciate your kindness and generosity.”

Mrs. Ray
Just Read it!
Funded Oct 4, 2019My class at Edgar Martin Middle loves to read books! Thanks to the books that we have read, we've learned that not all communities are always the same and not all people have always been treated equally. We have read about "utopias" becoming dystopias like in the Delirium series and about how people like Harriet Tubman and Raye Montague have impacted their worlds and made a positive impact.
Reading in our classroom looks like a bunch of happy kids enjoying their books! It's Jason making his independent reading goals for the first time, Stacey starting a series and being unable to put it down, and Tre reading more and more nonfiction books because he isn't intimidated by them anymore! It's students begging for more class time to read and suggesting books to each other. I noticed that there are particular students in my class that have especially enjoyed the new additions in books to our classroom. They have the books that they wanted and are reading more hastily than before because of how engaged they are in their books. Once the students in my class were given a wider selection, they have felt much more motivated because they know that there are books that fit their interests.
Thank you so very much for your generosity and kindness in giving to our classroom. We are very grateful to you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ray
This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School. In Need of Nonfiction
Funded Oct 17, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity! My students absolutely love the new nonfiction books. Last nine weeks, I had the highest percentage of students meeting their individual reading goals, and it is largely due to our beautiful new books. My students are required to read nonfiction books to help them increase their vocabulary and develop their comprehension. With our new reading tools, they have met Trombone Shorty, a musician from New Orleans, learned about The Tree Lady, Kate Sessions, and read Who Was and What Was from everything from Thomas Jefferson to Rock and Roll. Because of our books, we have traveled to new places, encountered new faces, and learned many important things. Thank you so much for donating to us!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School. The Struggle (to Share Books) Is Real!
Funded Oct 9, 2017Thank you so much for our novels! With your donation, my students reading levels have already grown. We use a reading program that sets a points goal for the students based on their individual reading levels. It is with pride and pleasure that I can say because of our new books, 100 percent of the students in my first period class met their individual reading goals. This is at first for my students, and I couldn't be happier. We celebrated with donuts while reading (of course)! In my other classes, more students than ever have been reading and making their goals.
In addition to just meeting their goals, my students are more motivated, excited and conversational about reading. I frequently hear them recommending new books and series to each other. One student (a former non-reader) has already and completed the entire Bluford High Series and is encouraging her friends to do the same.
It is with the most sincere and grateful heart that I thank you for these books and your donation. The difference you have made is unbelievable, and for us, the struggle to share books is over!”

Mrs. Ray
Readying Our "Readbox"
Funded Nov 22, 2016Thank you so very much for your generous donation. Our new library is fabulous, and my students are much more motivated to read now. They feel flattered and special that someone cared enough about their reading to donate these beautiful, new, exciting books.
Each of my classes is so very different. In one class, the students are really enjoying having access to the great classics. They feel like these books will help them prepare for high school. I have 8th-grade students reading 1984, The Great Gatsby, Fahrenheit 451, and even Frankenstein.
In another class, my students tend to prefer more realistic fiction novels that deal with issues similar to those that they are facing. Authors that they are enjoying are Walter Dean Myers, Sharon Draper, Chris Crutcher, and John Green.
It is truly amazing to see a former "reluctant reader" get excited to explore a new book. Thank you for all you've done. You've truly touched our lives, minds, and hearts.”

Mrs. Ray
The More We Read, the More We'll Know!
Funded Oct 27, 2015This is just a small token of gratitude to thank you for your donation. The chrome book and projector that you donated have impacted our classroom every single day. We are now able to PROJECT our daily proofreading sentences which allows participation and involvement from everyone. In addition, I am able to teach my students various reading strategies by projecting a piece of literature or informational text and having a class discussion on the piece. We can also do group annotations and marking now because of our ability to project.
Without donors like you, my students would not be able to meet their goals!”

Mrs. Ray
Ram Readers And Writers
Funded Oct 15, 2013Thank you so very much. My students and I were so excited when our request was funded and the new equipment arrived. Some of my students who don't have a computer at home were overjoyed that they got to use these brand new computers. They love working in groups and researching on the Internet. The additional laptops have been incredibly beneficial in my class.
Additionally, we love reading current event articles in the Junior Scholastic magazines. The alignment with Common Core ensures that we are meeting the standards and learning about the world while we are doing it. The articles with the varying reading levels make differentiation a breeze.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supplying us with these resources.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ray
