  • Kinders Learn with Technology

    Funded Oct 10, 2012

I wanted to let you know how excited my students are with the two iPads they have available in our classroom. They eagerly await their turns on the iPads and each have their own favorite activity. The children work in pairs and are doing an excellent job of taking turns, cooperating, and assisting others. I am so happy with this continued practice with necessary social skills..

Depending on the time of the day students might be practicing early reading skills, math concepts, or artistic expression all through colorful, fun, and engaging games, songs, and stories. Even when the students have the opportunity to play they always want the iPads.

Thank you for your generosity to my classroom and countless others!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stratford

  • Help Our Creativity Soar!

    Funded Mar 29, 2011

My students and I would like to express our happiness and gratitude for your generosity in providing the large box of art and craft supplies for our classroom. Already students have enjoyed creating projects with the variety of paints and papers that we received. The glitters help everything sparkle which is vitally important to kindergarten students. The racks and glues and stickers help make everything organized, connected, and complete.

My students can often be overheard talking about the people "out there" who help our class in so many ways. Even though my students are just four and five years old they have an appreciation and respect for learning because donations such as yours illustrate that learning is to be valued and supported.

    Thank you so much,”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stratford

  • Is it writing? Is it fun? It's both!

    Funded Mar 18, 2011

Thank you again for your generosity of spirit in helping my class practice to be better writers. The students have enjoyed practicing the correct formation of the letters on their whiteboards. It is a tedious process for kindergarten children and they have to practice every day to develop proficiency. The dotted whiteboards and colorful markers have made practicing much more fun!

The children often ask to use the story whiteboards to write their stories and sentences. They really enjoy using the markers to write the words and illustrate the stories.

We think of you every time we use these items and the students know that people "out there" care about them and their learning. It is a great feeling!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stratford

  • Show Me the Technology!

    Funded Jan 30, 2011

Thank you so very much for funding the project that provided my students with a digital camera (with accessories) and a printer that helps their ideas and creativity come to life.

My young students have used the camera to illustrate stories individually and in cooperative group settings. They enjoy being authors and making up stories to go along with their photos. Later this week they are looking forward to taking pictures of animals at the zoo on our field trip. They will use the photos to illustrate the reports they are working on about their favorite zoo animal.

I am happy to see the student's enjoying and engaged in the writing process and to see both their writing conventions and creative content grow. Thanks to your generosity writing is alive and well in this kindergarten class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stratford

  • Do the Reading Shuffle!

    Funded Oct 27, 2010

Every day my students are able to hear stories, practice letter names and sounds, learn about rhyming and rhythm, and practice math skills such as counting, colors, and patterns, We practice these skills daily in small group and whole class settings but the ipods allow the students to take control of their learning and practice what they want and in a way that is comfortable to them.

Some students want to sit quietly and listen, others move about the room pointing to the letters or numbers they are hearing, while others still will sing at the top of their lungs or dance as they listen. We learn in many ways - some are visual learners, some auditory, and some learn best by movement. The ipods allow this flexibility to each student. Twenty children are using these ipods on a daily basis in my room and 20-30 will use them next year and so forth. The impact is priceless.

My students and I thank you so much for caring and making this fun learning experience possible! ”

  • Lego My Kinders!

    Funded May 22, 2008

    Dear Donors,

Words cannot express the excitement I felt when I saw the email saying that my proposal had been funded! Thank you hardly seems enough to show my gratitude and appreciation but when my students see the Lego set and begin the adventure of playing, building, and imagining, and you see their faces in the photos, you will understand what is behind my humble thank you.

Susan said she hoped that someday I would be able to "pay it forward" and I can assure you all that I absolutely will be a donor as well as a recipient within the next year.

Thank you all again, and I wish you all a safe and fun-filled summer.

    Pam ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stratford

I have always thought that every young child needs the experience of playing with Lego building blocks. I teach Kindergarten in a low-income school where many of my children are fortunate just to get their basic needs met.
