  • Basic Needs for High School Students

    Funded Aug 7, 2023

Thank you so much for funding this important project. I’m excited to make these personal care items available to students who need them in Wasilla High School. Having their basic needs met will give students more time to focus on school and will allow them to remain in the learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lackey

This classroom project was brought to life by Alaska Department of Education & Early Development.
  • Mindfulness for Hope and Resilience

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation to this project. It was intended to provide a safe space of mindfulness for students experiencing experiencing the effects of trauma during their school day.

The calming books, activities, and fidgets were a perfect addition to the comforting space created by my administrator. Students were able to use the space when needed to help become calm and ready to return to learn. These practices were also able to be transferred to other environments because the students were allowed to take items with them.

Thank you for your kind generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lackey

  • Health Education for Elementary Students

    Funded Nov 22, 2013

Thank you so much funding our project. We were able to use the hand-washing kit as a teaching tool in the classroom. The Glow Germ project was so fun, showing how germs are spread from one student to another and how well students were washing their hands. The kit also provided a DVD which teachers are able to use in their classroom to teach about the importance of good hand-washing in the school setting.

The dental care kit included a bulletin board kit which was displayed in the nurse office, a large mouth and toothbrush for students to practice with, and some books and puzzles for teachers to check out. This kit is in high demand during dental awareness month. Thank you so much for your contributions to students in Meadow Lakes Elementary”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lackey

In an elementary school in the Mat-Su Borough, Alaska, students are resourceful and strong. Many survivie by hunting, fishing and the outdoors. We come from the Meadow Lakes area, and our students' living arrangements range from lake side homes to cabins without running water or RV campers in campgrounds. Our students are active, bright, resilient, and ready to learn. I am the school nurse in this amazing school and am able to build relationships with many children as they grow through elementary school.
