Funded Mar 24, 2018Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. Your generosity has provided me with lots of new books to support my Super Readers.
Kindergarten kids need special types of books to help them learn to read. The best types of books have predictable text with clear pictures. These books need to have funny stories or interesting facts to grab kids attention again and again.
The collection we requested consists of what teachers call guided reading books. These books are especially formulated to support early readers. The books come in sets of six and are arranged by level of complexity. These sets allow teachers to teach kids at their own pace in small groups.
Our new book collection is getting lots of use. During the day I meet with students in small groups of 4 to 6 students and I coaching them to use three cueing systems that promote effective reading. By making meaning of the pictures and applying what they know about letters and sounds to read words, students gain comprehension, and significant learning. They learn to be active participants, applying multiple strategies to make sense of their stories and have fun too!
Learning to read takes lots of work and practice. These books help kids feel empowered as they independently practice reading their books. Thank you so much for supporting our Super Readers!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Grossane
