  • Occupy The Digital Divide!!!!

    Funded Apr 23, 2012

Your donation and generosity towards my students is appreciated greatly. Thank you for being conscious enough to understand that the current public education funding model does not work for all of our students and that low income schools do not have equal access to quality education. Your donate levels the playing field for my students just a little more. I will not get to see many of the seeds you have helped me plant grow into socially conscious fruits, but they will one day bloom and continue to carry on our work to improve our world and society.

    Muchas Gracias!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. DePaz

  • Critical Media Literacy: Reading & Creating Media in HS

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

I want to personally thank you for contributing to my classroom project. Students are finalizing their projects as I write this letter. Teaching has become more difficult recently due to the budget cuts affecting much of the country. Thanks to your contribution, my students will still be able to engage and learn in a way that engages them most. Creating and learning to read media is an essential skill in our technology rich society. These skills are rarely taught in schools but due to your generous gift, students at my school will have these essential skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. DePaz

  • Critical Media Literacy: Reading Ethnicity in the Media

    Funded Jan 9, 2009

Upon receiving the news that my project had been funded, I could not believe it! I have had this proposal on DonorsChoose.org for a few months and honestly had given up hope on getting my cameras with this proposal. Especially, given this economy.

Receiving this email completes the greatest 2 days of teaching I have ever had in my 6 years of teaching. Using the LCD projector that I received from my last proposal, I was able to teach my kids about the current Israel/Gaza conflict in an interactive and engaging way. I am not exaggerating when I say that of my 5 periods, 90% of my kids were engaged for the full 100 minutes. Not only that, but they all wrote 2 full, well-written paragraphs on the issues at hand.

Thanks to your donation, now my kids will be able to continue this kind of meaningful and deep learning that all kids deserve.

    Thank You”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. DePaz

  • The Visual Revolution Needs To Be Funded!

    Funded Apr 12, 2008

There has been a lot of talk of hope and change in America recently. But as we face a massive education cut in California next year, my spirit, heart, and mind tell me nothing will really change for my kids. Not change at that level.

But the smiles and the dreams spoken in spanglish to me in room 203 are enough to offset my cynicism. My kids WILL receive the best possible holistic education that I can give them. I do have HOPE for them and their futures. And now you are part of this beautiful struggle with me. Thanks to your contribution to this project, our learning will be enhanced, thus enhancing the dreams my kids one day will reach.

    Muchas Graicas,

    Pablo ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. DePaz

If the revolution will ever be televised, all my kids would see it! In teaching a 3rd grade bilingual classroom in California, I have come to realize more than ever the need to incorporate new technology into my daily instruction.
